Video: killing some Strogg in Quake Wars
This new Quake Wars video came across the proverbial desk this weekend. Unfortunately, it was at the bottom of the virtual "IN" pile, so we've only now just gotten to it. News about the title has been fairly scant so far, so we're happy to take what we can get. The video is taken from the PC public beta that's going on right now. The game looks decent, though we wish there was more weapon variety present in the video. What do you think? Does Quake Wars stand a chance against the likes of Halo 3 and Team Fortress 2?

(Page 1)2. looks good...but it'll never stand up to the likes of halo 3. maybe not even team fortress 2.

3. Seems to me more and more that the Quake train rolled out of the station a long time ago. Shame actually.

6. graphics look sharp and the formula is tried and true. The key will be whether or not they can successfully make it feel like quake, where aim really matters, while combining that with the team based system. If they do that, it'll be big. The problem with all the other big squad based games (BF, AA, etc) is that real, individual FPS skills just don't matter as much, if at all.

7. And some people complained about Halo 3's graphics! Halo 3 was done beautifully.

Who ever thought this game up should be fired and banned from the gamming industry then hung naked upsidedown by thier balls in Time Square for a period of no less than 10 days!

From what tehy've said it's supposed to feel and play more like a DM/TDM style game, but within the large scale squad setting. So aim and fast fps skill should actually matter more than it does in other games of this style. Their mission system is also supposed to cater more towards small effective squads rather than the large scale randomness of games like BF. Both would be wins in my book.

R U kidding me? This game moves slooooow Quake is supposed to move fast. I like the thrill of the hunt, players always try to run away from me in Quake and I like chasing them down. How about the thrill of a rocket jump followed by a 180 degree turn/weapon switch to a rail gun zoomed in splat and hearing the announcer say "Impressive"? Think ur gonna get that kind of fun out of this game? No. This game stands No chance to do anygood on the 360 online and thats comming from some1 that loves Quake and took the mostly bad elements along with the few good ones in Quake 4 on 360. AT best this game looks a little more interesting than Far Cry online. Is Id or Ravensoft responsable for this shit?!

11. I agree with the posters that believe this game is NOTHING like quake is supposed to be. JSN, you must have never played Quake 1 or Quake 2. Those games revolutionized multiplayer gameplay because they were filled with action. None of this squad based crap. No zooming weapons of any kind. As soon as you add a single weapon with any kind of zoom, face to face action goes out the window, and we're left with a bad Rainbow Six clone. This game looks like unappealing at best, and up against Halo 3 and Team Fortress (which was originally a Quake 1 mod), it doesn't stand a chance.

14. I've played the beta and it really isn't that good. The graphics are horrible. It's fairly standard fast-paced Quake gameplay, but I dunno, maybe Halo has spoiled me.

15. That looks extremely fun. Enemy Territory on the PC was awesome back in the day. I haven't played it in awhile, though.

16. To this day I have yet to have a multiplayer experience that was half as fun as Quake 2. Multiplayer perfection.
