Japan shuns Lost Planet and Dead Rising

As part of their 2006 fiscal year reporting, Capcom released sales numbers that prove that Japan hasn't been feeling Lost Planet or Dead Rising. According to their numbers, both games sold pretty well in North America and Europe, Dead Rising selling 730,000 and Lost Planet selling 810,000 copies in North America alone. But Japan is another story all together as both games have yet to sell even 100,000 copies, which makes up for less than 10% of each games' total sales. We understand that both Lost Planet and Dead Rising were geared towards Western audiences, so less than fantastic Japanese sales were a given. But we didn't think Japanese gamers would avoid these gems like the black plague. Don't worry though, Lost Planet or Dead Rising, we still love you and you can crash on our couch anytime you want.

Umm... I think you are totally misinterpreting those figures.

Remember that there are far fewer 360 owners in japan. So as a percentage of total 360 owners to dead rising or lost planet owners the difference between japan and north america/europe is not very extreme

Japan is too busy playing pokemon and watching hentai porn to buy either of these games. Seriously, I know people make a big deal about as far as console sales go, but the majority of Japanese taste in video games is fucking atrocious. I am not surprised.

We need more games with scantily clad anime schoolgirls fighting/making out with tentacled aliens whilst engaging in a dialog that, although lengthy and detailed, makes little sense or has little to do woth the actual plot of the game. The whole thing is to be set in a post apocalyptic world in which technology and nature bond seamlessly. Our hero should be androgynous.

Except meanwhile some of the best selling games are Wii Sports and Brain Training. I don't think stereotypical anime-ized impressions of what Japanese people enjoy is going to cut it there. If it did, there'd be a million units of [email protected] sold on the system.

Two damn good games I guess we have different tastes in games. I remember back in the day I got this hot title for Japan for the Super Ninty called Nobunga Ambition. Man that game blew but go figure they asian market loved it.

Dead rising was kick ass and original and Lost Planet really was a very good immersive game.

The lead character in Lost Planet is based off a Korean movie star, you racist schmuck. Why don't I stereotype all white gamers as obsessed with cliched FPSes? Oh wait, Xbox gamers ARE obsessed with FPSes...

Dax, actually I'm annoyed with the glut of FPS games available for the 360. I'd love some varied gameplay.

Let's just hope this has no influence on Capcom's future plans... I love Capcom and i wouldn't want to see them disappear from the xbox360 scene :)

Why don't you do that Dax? Best sellers for Xbox and 360 have been FPS's. Stereotypes are funny because they have merit, don't take yourself so seriously. There was no hate nor malice behind my statement. I am a white Irishman who likes to drink and play Call of Duty 3, but I'm not going to get all pissy because you said so. Stop being such a lady.

Thanks David for being the post of reason.

~450,000 360s sold in Japan, so 1 in 5 bought Lost Planet and 1 in 5.5 bought Dead Rising.

~6,000,000 360s sold in NA... 1 in 7.4 bought LP, 1 in 8.2 bought DR

Japan has a better attach rate than NA

Thanks for the spin Dustin...

I have played a healthy amount of Lost Planet multiplayer with Japanese owners on Live. Take these numbers with a grain of salt -- the 360 has sold very poorly in Japan. 90k is actually a much larger portion of the Japanese 360 population than the 810k copies in the US.

@1 Exactly my thoughts.

The news here is that both games sold very, very well in all regions considering the installed base of those regions.

Japs can't handle FPS because it makes their little brains dizzy. Slow them down, throw in some children with fully developed breasts with really high, annoying voices and let them roll around a pointless, beautiful katamari ball of shit around. They love that crap.

@#1 David

When I log into Lost Planet Multi-player on the weekend mornings, most of the rooms are Japanese. If you look at the leader-boards on Lost planet website most of the top players are Japanese.....except the top player is American....:-) They are actually quite good at the game as well. So David I think its safe to say that you have a great point.
