A fistful of new Virtua Fighter 5 screens

Frankly, we're still miffed that SEGA refuses to add online play to its flagship fighting title, Virtua Fighter 5. Of course, that doesn't mean we won't ravenously devour every scrap of information about the game that comes our way. Today's latest on Virtua Fighter 5 comes to us from Gamertag Radio in the form of three new screenshots. Yeah, it's not exactly earth-shattering (like, say, announcing fully integrated online play), but it's better than nothing. Besides, the game is just damned pretty.

VF5 hits (and kicks) the Xbox 360 this summer. Anyone out there plan on picking it up?

1. I havent played VF since the super blocky (and for its time exeptional) VF2. Does it still play similarly? Does it play more like DOA with the impossible twitchyness and rediculous combos?

I'm very excited about this but have been out of touch with the series for a long time.

2. VF has pretty much remained the same over the years. Obviously there's been changes, but it's not been turned into DoA, that's for sure.

I wish they would announce online play, though Sure is coming out long enough after the PS3 version to make it possible.

3. I would gladly pick this up if the 360's D-pad wasn't complete garbage.

4. Richard, don't hate the lack of online. You have to admit there's no such thing as completely lag-free online fighting game. While this might be acceptable for a game like Dead or Alive, Virtua Fighter is too precise to have matches you can take seriously if there's even a bit of lag in the mix...

And yes, I cannot wait!!! I almost bought a PS3 because of this game...

@heatseeker2, There's always the DoA Arcade Stick ;)

5. lets do a boycott until they give in to online play

6. I want to but the "no online" thing gets to me. Why not include a feature like Capcom did for SF2Aniversary for Xbox that only 2 people can have a direct connection hence eliminating lag?

7. No online play = me not buying it.

Come on Sega! There's probably about five million other people (you know- 360 owners?) with no new fighting game to look forward to this year... why would you blow an opportunity like this?

Does Sega hate money?

It's the only logic I can derive from the business decisions they've been making these last couple of years. How far the company that once brought us some of the greatest games of all time as fallen...

As a former Sega fanboy it is truly heartbreaking to watch a company whose releases I once loved and revered continue to make it's presence in the industry increasingly irrelevant.

8. @Everyone who's hating on the lack of online play... Do you even know why they did it? Here:

"Our stance toward the online gameplay has not been changed from what it was before. VF5 runs at 60fps. It would be nice if there were an environment where we could communicate with no problem at all under this condition, but unfortunately, there are various barriers for the network gaming. We wish we had an Internet environment that would convince the players who develop frame-by-frame offense and defence. The Japanese advanced players play battles that can be determined within one frame!"

I've had many MANY online frustrations with Dead or Alive Ultimate & 4, SFII, you name it. Maybe you guys don't take your fighting games very seriously, but I do... and I respect what Sega's doing. It's not that they don't like money Stranger, it's that they give mad respect to the genre, franchise, and the fans... why comprimise the experience because online play is the new buzzword? We've played online fighting games, we all already know they universally suck online! Could you SERIOUSLY imagine pulling off decent combos with mad lag? If you're a sega fanboy like you say, shouldn't you be happy they're not turning the VF franchise into crap by comprimising the game/turning it into a button masher thanks to lag?

How many real fighting game afficianados can stand playing online anyway? I don't personally know any; though I do know a few casual players who are into it... But there's always DOA 4 if you want some lag in your fighting game experience ;)

9. Virtua Fighter is Dead or Alive without the memorable girls and other characters (like Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden and Tina's dad) that you've grown attached to.

That's the problem with the other 3D fighters aswell; Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat etc. Except for Dead or Alive, 2D fighters are the only ones with any personality. Chun-Li, Mai, the list goes on.

Surely not picking this one up
