We don't usually mention the artist of the month on Xbox Live, but this month actually features a pretty good band, Modest Mouse. Most people will recognize Modest Mouse for their song, "Float On." Xbox Live users will be able to download a video of their latest single "Dashboard" from Marketplace (though we've been unable to find it yet). Modest Mouse is also expected to participate in an Xbox Live Game with Fame session some time soon.We have to ask you, dear readers, with so many games to play, do you pay attention to the artist of the month?

I am okay with the Mouse, I dig this band. However, most of the other artists are completely retarded. They are either Emo, or far far too pop (wasn't Jessica or Ashley Simpson one of the earlier artists of the months? I forget)
I do always check to see what music videos are in the section though, since I watch no EmptyVee or VH1 (or BET for that matter), I catch no videos.

Wow, this is the first band I actually enjoy to be featured as AotM. I'll probably even download the video. Great job, whoever is behind this.

OK.. Isn't this the 6th time in a row they have a rock (or closely to rock) artist/band? I mean, hip-hop is HUGE, but is completely overlooked. The closest they got was Matisyahu...
I'm not satisfied until I can hear the N-word said by the Artist of the Month.... How about Birdman & Lil Wayne's "Leather so Soft"? It's got guitar riffs (Lil Wayne plays the guitar), and Birdman says the N-word 30 times :D Also, the video is pretty beautiful with the white background and everything. It's also more easy listening than most rap music.
Oh, and then there's Reggae and Metal and Techno and loads of other genres. Broaden the horizon, please...
Oh, and you got to admit, Andy Dick was a little funny in that Jessica Simpson video...

i don't know who's worse: either one of the Simpson hoes or good charlotte. At least the Simpson's are honest about being ditzy fashion whores.

As an avid fan of rap, I can say its pretty easy to see why that genre would be overlooked by Xbox. Too many children use it, if anything, there might be a light R&B song, but you have to admit there has to be a line drawn as to what type of content is acceptable. The thing with rock music, they have so many metaphors and hidden meanings, it isn't as obvious if they are talking about doing drugs, having sex, etc.
There is always the 'underground/indie' rap artists that are not verbally abusive to a kids ear, however, I bet they don't have enough money in the first place to promote themselves to Microsoft to get on the artist of the month (this does make me wonder, what is the whole process to get that status)

The only one I've downloaded was Incubus' Anna Molly. The rest are crap. I read somewhere that it's the record companies that are charging so much for videos & that's why they're not on Live. The record companies get more from sites like MTV.com to have them air exclusively. That's why there are so few videos on Yahoo music now.

Sweet!
I enjoy AotM... I just like downloading some of the music videos and checking out new bands that I haven't heard of :) Some suck, but some are pretty good.
BTW, I think that you guys should report on AotM here at X360F... No reason not to (even though you think the bands are crappy, somebody out there likes them).

I'm going to go against popular opinion and say Good Charlotte was a good 'Artist of the Month'. Say what you want about them quality-wise, but at least I knew who they were. Most times these Artists of the Month are groups/people I don't even know.
We can all see it's marketing spiel, self-promotion thru and thru, but it's nice when you can actually recognize the artists being plugged once in awhile. Even if you don't bother to check them out (Simpson) at least it raises Artist Of The Month's visibility somewhat and that stands for something when this feature typically runs the bottom of the barrel on marketplace for most people I believe.

Hell yes.
I love me some Modest Mouse. Their new album is great, it's also pretty apparent how much influence the Smiths guitarist had introduced into the band.

Also worth noting is that there's a pretty decent Bad Religion video, but man they're showing their age these days. Not quite as much youth in their voices as I remember when I started listening to them, haha.
As for the Modest Mouse video?
It may very well be my favorite video of all time. I mean seriously, Fishermen? Fish Stories? Beards? Beards? and more Beards? A Steampunk-esque civilization? A hand replaced with a microphone?

Always. They really should offer WAY more music videos than they do. It's nice the ones they have are free, but seriously, they are missing out on a huge market here.

Humm. I think my favourite Artist of the Month was Tenacious D, being a fan of their music.
But Mouse? Dunno. I mean, I like Float On. But I think I like Weird Al's version in one of his Polkas more.

Modest Mouse is a fantastic band. Not as fantastic as when they were constantly on drugs, but still fantastic.
Anyone who doesn't own a copy of The Lonesome Crowded West should be ashamed.

For the record, we don't avoid Artist of the Month or anything. It's just that most of us don't really pay attention to it. I just happened to see that Modest Mouse was there and decided to report it.
As for death metal, let's see some Dethklok on there!
