Wing Commander Arena confirmed for XBLA

Only one day after its discovery in the ESRB database, Electronic Arts has confirmed that Wing Commander Arena is headed to Xbox Live Arcade. Rather than focusing on story, Wing Commander Arena is purely about space combat. The game promises customized ships and up to 16 player battles (in teams or free-for-all). Wing Commander Arena is expected to release this summer. Considering the Arcade releases lately, we'll take that prediction with a sizable chunk of salt.

Given the game's combat centered nature, are the Wing Commander fans out there upset? Would you rather see a full-fledged sequel?

1. MP is great and all but I want to see single player and a story. I loved playing the old ones and taking out capital ships and what not.

2. Wing Commander: Arena was the worst of the series. Maybe because trying to play multiplayer over a modem was kind of meh....

5. This is coming to Xbox Live Arcade? For the 360 or the system the will succeed it? It's hard to tell given how long it takes for a game to actually come out after it gets announced.

Lol, I love this new trend of major gaming media (even Gamespot, etc.) taking potshots at Microsoft's shitty certification process.

6. I played all the WC games since Wing Commander II, and the Privateer series, I was really addicted to it, so knowing that these epic series are being looked at again is always reconforting.
As a revamped (or not) entry in the new consoles gaming, I think Arena won't be much of significance, but I believe we will hear more about Wing Commander pretty soon... :))
