Real life Halo suit bombs, now on eBay

Troy Hurtubise, the man responsible for the real life Halo suit we reported last month, is placing his latest work up for auction. Having spent his family's savings and 1750 hours developing the "Trojan" suit, Hurtubise is broke. Following the media frenzy that surrounded his latest creation, Hurtubise hasn't received a single offer to produce his exoskeleton on a large scale. In short, he needs money. The high bid sits at $15,000 as of this posting, and we expect that amount will go up before it closes on February 15th.

The winner of the auction will get the suit, the "Trojan" shield, and exclusive rights to reproduce what Hurtubise calls "Shadow Armor," a key component of the suit itself. The shadow armor is 2/8 of an inch thick and is capable of stopping knives and bullets at point blank range. Before anyone gets any bright ideas, though, it's important to note that the suit is being sold as "memorabilia and costume paraphernalia only."

Check out a video of what the suit can do after the break.

Anybody want to make a bid? If any 360 Fanboy readers snag this, you must send us pictures (and money, because you must be loaded).

1. I call BS. Along with the seller having 0 feedback, who the hell would say 2/8 of an inch? Wouldn't that be 1/4?

3. I don't know 15,000 dolalrs is a little steep for me. lol That thing looks so weird though. I don't think they need weapons if the army wore that. The enemy would either laugh themselves into a coma or they would just run away scared because they would think it was something evil.

I agree the 2/8 thing is weird, but this is coming from a paper that interviewed him before. It's legit.

7. I'm also having a hard time understanding why he built the suit in the first place. About 20 years ago the US DOD decided it was time to boost the survivalibity of ground forces. As such the future force worrior concept was born.
During the early stages of the program, they tried many full body protection suits like the trojan, only many times more sophiscated. What they found out was that in real combat situations, people dont like to fight with something covering their face. Thus the helment was eliminated.
Second they found that full body armor, no matter how flexible, felt restrictive and forced the soldier to alter the way they shoot. Thus full body armor was eliminated.
Both of these problems could have been overcome with trainning but there was another problem. Price.
Not only are the suits expensive, but so is the trainning and maintaince needed to keep they suits operational. Not to mention that they suits arent battle tested. What if the AC in your helmet or visual apperatus shorts out in during a firefight? Take the helmet off and expose your head to gunfire?
getting back to my point, the government decided to go another direction by investing the saved money in a total force concept. Increasing the soldiers survivalibity by increasing his intel and useablilty of his weapon systems. A good move, as it allows you to invest that money in new technologies such as mobile laser cannons, new support equipment, or a worthy replacement for the battle proven A10.

I guess what im trying to say is, do your homework.

sorry i got way off topic.

8. They might have just removed the full body suit cause of the pricing so it wouldn't look as if they're spending so much money on the military instead of education.

Anyways, he might just make money on this thing depending on how much it takes him to individually produce each one. It's a great achievement for him even though it made him broke.

10. "The shadow armor is 2/8 of an inch thick and is capable of stopping knives and bullets at point blank range."

That's too thick! He needs to make something 1/4" thick that can do the same.

12. I hate to kick a man when he's down but..
that suit looks like utter trash.

He obviously doesn't understand the technology or business. The military has its own R&D, and billions invested in weapons development.

Take this elementary plastic trash back to the backyard, and stop wasting people's time.

13. @ #10

2/8" = 1/4"
just thought I'd point that out...
