Reader Thomas Meyer applies simple logic to Major Nelson's latest podcast and deduces that the Fall Dashboard Update should be out by next Tuesday:Major Nelson says [76:20] that you cannot use the new Xbox 360 Wireless Communicator on a retail Xbox 360 yet and he tried it on his developer kit. Since the Communicator is scheduled for release on October 31st and people should be able to use it on that day, it's logical to assume that the Fall Update must be distributed no later than Oct 31st. Right?
Elementary, my dear Thomas. Microsoft would never sell their loyal customers a product that didn't work on launch day. Or would they?

I don't see this as being the fall update. Why can't it just be an update for that particular device?

Gamerscore blog post from last week: "The servers and software were upgraded to prepare for updates that will go live later this month. You shouldn't see any noticeable changes right now. We're preparing details about the updates going into Xbox.com and Xbox Live, that we'll share with you next week."
I find it highly unlikely that they would do any half-measure update just to get the headset working - or leave it sitting on shelves with no console to use it on.
I expect MS to announce something this week.

If they need to they will update for the headsets only, then release the rest of the date update after.
Does anyone know when these are being release outside the US?

This update will probably also have the 1080p output enabled. Since updating several thousand devices is no piece of cake, Microsoft will keep the number of firmware update events to a minimum. This must be the fall update.

Kinetic,
the HD DVD drive, Wireless Headse and Wireless Racing Wheel are due out November 24th in Germany, so I'd expect all of Europe to get them the same day. Yup, Amazon UK lists the Headset also on Nov 24th.

More likely, if they need to delay the dash update, they will just push back the saleable date on the headset.
That doesn't mean that shops won't break street, but that happens anyway.

they've been saying all along that the fall update wouldn't hit 'til some time in November. I suspect they'll add support for the headset all on it's own, and put out the update in Nov, as they've stated previously.

I hope when the wireless headset is released they have a new vision cam bundle that includes it instead of the old wired headset.

I realize that may have something to do with the standalone game that came out that does support the camera, but we're still waiting on that camera support for Texas Hold 'Em. It's not unprecedented for something like this to happen.

I heard him say that and thought the same. I also read once in an interview that the Major said something about the update having things that games released in fall would use....something like that. Anyway, Dash update soon likely.

Also if it were updated Oct. 30th the update would come on the eve of the release date Eastern Europe. Presumably the Xbox 360 would have to be updated in order to launch in the new countries. It would seem odd that you could buy a headset that doesn't work or a console that isnt properly prepared for that region and have to wait until the update.

For what it's worth, I work for Circuit City and our Xbox Rep told me that the wireless headset is due on November 31st. She had some printed promotional material that stated this as well.

@Torrey: You or your Rep must have been looking at a typo or something according to these:
