Assassin's Creed not so exclusive for PS3

1UP.com does some research on the murky multi-platform status of Assassin's Creed and get this broken record response from Ubisoft:

1UP: Is Assassin's Creed an exclusive title for the PS3 or is it only announced for the PS3?
Ubisoft: "Assassin's Creed is coming to the PS3. No other announcements have been made."

1UP: So it is not exclusive?
Ubisoft: "Assassin's Creed is coming to the PS3. No other announcements have been made."

1UP speculates that Sony's arrangement is similar to the announcement deal Microsoft brokered with Rockstar regarding the next GTA, with Kutaragi's krew unwilling to shell out the bucks for exclusivity. They also note that Sony has recently downplayed the importance of third-party exclusives. That's good news for 360 owners, who will likely get the chance to play this impressive-looking game on their system. But it has to depress the PS3 fanboys, who now have one less rationalization for forking over $600. We'll see if Sony decides they need one.

1. It would be really nice to see this come to 360 with virutally no diff between the 360 version and the PS3 version. Ubisoft isn't a company for exclusives. They're pretty much like EA. Bring this and Unreal 2007 and there's no reason to spend the extra cash on Sony's system.

2. There have been rumours flying all over the place over the exclusivity of Assassin's Creed.

If it indeed releases for the XBOX 360, I dont think there will be any differences between the 2 versions, except some bonus content (trailers for upcoming games, demos etc)on the PS3 which too I feel is unlikely...

3. I agree with Vultaro, all these Sony fans seem to think that just because companies have all this room on the Blu-Ray disks that publishers are going to give away tons of free content to PS3 users. But with game publishers constantly stating they are losing money I think PS3 customers are going to get extra content for a price just like the 360 users.

This games looks amazing, it is one of the reasons I was thinking of buying a PS3, but if it is not an exculsive I will be able to wait a while until SOCOM and other PS3 exculsives come out and maybe even get the benefit of a price drop.

4. Ubisoft pretty well confirmed this at the last GDC anyway. It's bizarre that they put it under wraps after publicly unveiling it for 360.

Oh well, I'm looking forward to it.

5. If Sony does indeed not get this as an exclusive title, then all they need to do now is lose the main Final Fantasy series exclusivity and the PS3 will completely fail. It will only sell to people who buy the PS3 just because it's a PlayStation.

6. In this month's Game Informer hey talk about Assassin's Creed and Mercenaries 2 being brought to the 360.
