[Update]
Che Chou, a former 1up staffer now working on Forza 2 for MS posted this response in the NeoGaf forums (Via Xboxic):
It's simply a rumor that Konami higher-ups are pressuring Kojima Productions to consider making MGS4 a multiplatform game because production costs on the game are unsurprisingly high and only getting higher. With PS3 install base numbers not looking all that rosy due to console cost and manufacturing problems, Konami is scared they can't recoup their investment on only 1 platform alone.
It's also a nice way to maybe blackmail Sony into giving Konami an incentive to keeping the game a PS3 exclusive, imo.
Whatever the case, I highly doubt it's going to happen so quit building yourself a disappointing kiloton bomb.
Either way, it's fun to see the PS3 fanboys sweat over losing their most prized exclusive.
[Thanks Luke]

I can't say I'm suprised... If they want to sell games, they'll have to bring them to a platform that people can actually get a hold of.

If this turns out to be true I personally know at least 6 people who WON'T be buying a PS3, me included.
MGS is the Jewl in Sony's crown. Without it they are very close to being de-throned.
I can't think of many good IPs that Sony have excluisivly.

This would be more a win for microsoft then a loss for sony.
MGS is NOT the jewel in Sony's crown and its silly to think so. the jewel in Sony's crown is RPGs it always has been. MGS2 came out on xbox but that didnt hurt the PS2 at all (granted it was much later).
On top of that, MGS has always sold much better in America then it has in Japan. If you recal MGS2 was released in America BEFORE Japan. How many times do you see a Japanese made came come out State side first? But with the next splinter cell being 360 exclusive, if MGS went multiplatform- fans of the genere would have litte reason to go PS3.

A blow to sony is always nice, but as far as I'm concerned, they can keep it. I am not a fan at all of the MGS games. Metal Gear Ac!d on the other hand, though... I'd love to see that series on the 360.

Seen any good, or any at all, for that matter, exclusive RPGs coming to the PS3? Neither have I. In all likelyhood, FF XIII will be on the 360 and PS3, but if it's not any better than XII, I won't really care either way. The 360 already has several solid RPGs (although most are only in Japan), and the best looking RPG coming is Lost Odessey, which is a 360 exclusive. I just wish they would bring Culdcept Saga and Far East of Eden out in the US, dammit. The only exclusives sony can count on are first party, and they are all crap, or at least not that great. Sony better REALLY hope Blu-Ray takes off (which it most likely won't), because their gaming front isn't looking too hot.

Gran Turi... no, wait, forza is better
Ratchet and Cl... nope, they screwed that up
Jack and Dax... nope, they screwed that up too
Sly... Never been a fan, but at least they haven't destroyed it yet
Untold Legends/Everquest Champions...Good solid series, but not a system seller
Hum, I guess they better hope Lair is REALLY good. Sony has always looked so good because so many companies have chosen to just make games for the PS2, because of the huge installed base. They aren't going to have that this go around, and there are going to be very few third-party PS3 exclusives, at least any time soon. The development costs are just too high to risk it all on a system that is only shipping 500,000 units this year.

Che gets right to the precipice and then refuses to acknowledge what he's seeing.
If it costs too much to make back their money, then it won't matter how much Sony hands them, or what the directorial vision is or any of that shit, it'll be about putting the project back in the black, and that will probably mean putting it on the green and white console.
Since that game still hasn't been dated for PS3 though...sitting down for a bit and appreciating the view of the awesome games already on your shelves (hopefully) isn't a bad idea.

Video games are approaching major motion picture production costs. I've heard FFXII figures in the $40million range. No one is going to want to spend this money and then cut out about half of the possible audience.
Think if Mission Impossible III (or any major blockbuster action movie) was only released to play on Sony DVD players. Oh wait, I was using this analogy and then I forgot the HD format war.
Ok, MI:3 was released only to Loews cinemas.

Ew. Mario 64 clones.
I'm sure they are great games, but I just can't shake the image that they are merely rehashes on the Mario 64/Banjo Kazzoie formula.
BTW, I am NOT looking forward to the new Banjo game. That clunky game's legacy left a really sour taste in my mouth.

I say we start a petition to push Konami to do this, showing how many more people will buy this game if it comes to Xbox 360.

No, what we need to do is send a petition to Sony that reads "White Knight will suck".
Sony will drop publishing rights Square (or any other 3rd party) will pick up the publishing rights and voila! Multi-console game!
Now as for Final Fantasy XIII...

Rumors feed on your interest ... wow MGS! ... your biases ... xbox360 > ps3 ... and they can be fun items to read, the kinda thing you keep tabs on in the back of your mind, but I don't see the point in dissecting mass marketing media speculation. Every second game related magazine you buy or see on the newsstand these days have some outrageous line splashed on the cover. Why? Because it sells magazines.

I don't think Sony is in a financial position to be offering incentives for exclusivity, and third parties, in this day and age, I'm surprised would offer anything exclusive without an incentive from a first party.

Well, seeing how it has always been a playstation exclusive (sorta like GTA) I can't see why it would release on 360, and the trailer on the PSP Metal Gear Acid 2 told me otherwise.

Except the major GTA games all hit Xbox and the next one is coming to 360 as well. So that really isn't a great example.
I wouldn't be surprised if this happens, either way. At the same time, it's kind of absolutely bizarre to stuff a freaking rumor on your cover and then act annoyed and surprised by the fact that people are getting overly excited about it.
It's like two steps away from tabloids.
