Joytech answers LCD critics

Joytech's PR manager has responded to criticism on this site of their Joytech 9200 Digital LCD Monitor:

1) The Monitor does NOT block any air vents to the console. It has been designed to avoid damaging the console in any way.
2) The Monitor is not deisgned to be portable (It has no In-Car Adapter). It is best used where space is at a premium.
3) The Monitor is VERY good quality. It is a TFT display and in terms of quality, it is on a par if not better than our PStwo 8inch Monitor that has scored many, many great reviews. Please don't compare to our competitor's models!
4) JOYTECH have NOT advertised nor led anyone to believe that this Monitor is Hi Def. It is NOT. Any website that is communicating the Monitor as High Definition is incorrect and doing so without the concent of JOYTECH. The Monitor does however produce a surprisingly clear picture however, perfect for it's size. DVD's look great through it as well. In the UK it is now available through Argos.

Of course, companies are always welcome to defend themselves from our brutal (and sometimes hasty) opinions in the comments section

1. You guys stole that image from xbox-scene.com

Everyone can see the watermark.

Posted at 9:04AM on May 2nd 2006 by Jmel

2. Ever think that's why they put the watermark on there? Xbox-Scene are the ones we linked to in the referring post as well.

Not to mention, how could anyone own promotional materials for this product except for the product's owner, Joytech? And something tells me they won't mind us using their image to relay their rebuttal.

Nice try Jmel...

3. >Please don't compare to our competitor's models!
Why not? We are the customers and will do whatever we like. If the product is good the company should welcome comparisons with competitors otherwise there is obviously something to worry about.

>JOYTECH have NOT advertised nor led anyone
>to believe that this Monitor is Hi Def. It is NOT

I stopped reading after this. Wow, PR professionalism at its best if I was a betting man I would bet he/she gets paid more than the average wage aswell.

I have been happy with past Joytech products for my consoles (wireless pads and leads) but I (and I think most of us) will NEVER buy a LCD display device for my 360 if it does not support HD.

4. I don't know weither or not high defination would matter on a 9" screen, but I bet even if the difference wasn't all that visible it would still sell better.

I am about to buy a HiDef screen, not because there is a huge difference is quality but because I want somthing to take advantage of what my X360 can provide.

This screen might sell better if it was for the Nintendo wii.

5. Joytech has great points. Their PStwo screen (for the slim PS2) had been rated best of its class in comparison to other screens on the market. Not only was it the brightest and clearest of all the screens, it was also the largest for the PS Slim and included SRS surround to simulate surround sound on a small screen. Their PStwo screen seemed to be the only screen that was of quality and really set a new standard for other manufacturers.

If there ever was a screen that I'd buy for the Xbox 360, it would be a Joytech one because of their proven success with their PStwo Slim product. Not only does this screen look cool because it is widescreen, the Xbox 360 screen looks like it would be great to use with the Xbox 360's upcoming video camera for teleconferencing. If I had extra money to spend, I would probably invest some money on an extra Xbox 360 and this screen with the video camera to use at my parent's house for teleconferencing, since they live far away and I could game while I'm there. Other than that though, it could be great for people who are tight on space, but since I don't have that problem I think that I'd rather just stick with playing on a High Def display.

8. I think its great to see that they actually read our comments, unlike some other companies who dont care as long as someone but their product.
That alone makes me give joytech a thumbs up.

9. I don't want to sound mean, but if it's not for travel what's it for? Maybe if I have the sudden urge to get some frags while dropping a deucer? Have it in the kitchen for Geometry Wars while I cook up some ramen noodles?

If the price was right this would be good for road trips and the 480p resolution is a plus. But, if you don't already have a tv bigger than 9 inches or can't fit a tv bigger than 9 inches in your room, I think you have bigger issues to worry about.

Call me crazy, but I think I have some good points...

10. it is made for the niche market of people who own 360s and live in cardboard boxes.

Posted at 2:45PM on May 2nd 2006 by its420

11. Believe it or not, if we judge Def range by dpi, This little screen is more Hi Def than a 62" plasma.

Area of a 1080i 62" Screen is 62" = 43.8406~ ^2

Area of a 480p 8" screen is 8" = 5.6568~^2

Resolution to square inches
62" : 1920x1080 = 2073600px
43.84" x 2 = 86.768
2073600px / 86.768" = 23898dpi
8" : 640x480 = 307200px
5.66" x 2 = 11.32
307200px / 11.32 = 27137dpi

DPI

62" = square root of 23898 = 154.58
8" = square root of 27137 = 164.73

if i'm wrong, or if the 8" screen is not 480p, then please let me know.

12. That is some crazy math and way above me. For anything 360 related I try and stick to 720p since the progressive scan is better for fast movement. My crappy old school 4:3 HDTV in the bedroom is only 1080i, which sucks a bit, but I usually play on the projector in the living room anyway.

14. You're all overlooking the best use for this screen...

LAN parties!

15. A car adaptor for a 9" screen seems like one of those "DUHHHH" things, doesn't it?

Posted at 5:41PM on May 2nd 2006 by Bag of Meat

16. Jmel,

Do you have to cry over stupid shit? Does your day consist of watching Star Wars in your grandma's basement while trolling the web? If you don't like how they do business, get over it.

I personally like coming here for my info and am gald they take stuff from other sources so I only have to come here. If you looked at anything on weblogs inc., besides editorials, it's usually a synopsis of a story on another site with a link to read the full story.

The interweb isn't your ninth grade english class and they don't have to explicitly cite their sources in APA format you tool.

17. gamer1, do you work for joytech?

Posted at 6:45PM on May 2nd 2006 by Lazyguy

18. wow looks clear, well compared to others ive seen, i'm interested .

Posted at 5:00AM on May 3rd 2006 by eCom

19. Lazyguy, I agree with you that gamer1 sounds like a Joytech employee.

It's all marketing-speak and a little too familiar with the Joytech brand. I think at the end they decided that they had to put that last sentence in to make it sound legit.

Seriously, teleconferencing? Who would buy a $400 console, $200 screen, and $? camera for occasional teleconferencing?

Anyways, pretty lame tactic.

20. You are all douchebags....#14, you are the only one here that seems to get it. But seriously, the rest of you...bags of douche. Have a nice day.
