MS trying to score a GTA exclusive?

The latest issue of Game Informer stands by the mag's last bombshell rumor and adds a new one. Xboxic has a summary:

GI is standing by their April issue in which they revealed Forerunner, a new title in the Halo series. Now this month in their Loose Talk section, they reveal Project Orion. According to GI, Bungie and Ensemble Studios are teaming up to make a Halo FPS MMO. They claim this project is in “planning stages” just like Forerunner, so things could “change.”

Microsoft is currently trying their hardest to secure the next version of GTA as an Xbox 360 exclusive. They claim MS is going full out in this. Even if MS does not secure it as a full exclusive, they will try to get it as a timed exclusive (similar to Sony last gen).

That should get the PS3 fanboys' coffee percolating.

1. I think MS will get this exclusive...No one really wants a piece of GTA right now (with the hard to remove coffee stains and all!). Would be a great move for X360!

2. All i can say is holly sh1t! I give mad props to microsoft for this one. I hope we get it :)

3. Does anyone but me think that the picture of bill gates in that article is pretty funny. It is like he is praying for these titles lol

4. Squaresoft took their main franchise, Final Fantasy, off the profitable Nintendo consoles and developed the next Final Fantasy title for the brand new Playstation

Who would have thought Squaresoft would have done that back then?

5. I personally hate the game...but that would be great if PS3 fanboys waited all this time only to have their favorite title 360 exclusive.

6. I think Sony would be foolish to let Rockstar slip from them.
I don't think many consumers see the hot coffee incident the same way the politions and parents do, rather they see it as a funny mistake they made that cost them.
They will still buy GTA, and if it's 360 exclusive, the Playstation will be hurt.

7. I am doubtful, yet hopeful...
Sony is a big company, and won't let one of its biggest games slip to the 360 easily.

8. I thought Forerunner was an april fools gag or something??

Posted at 9:07AM on Apr 10th 2006 by Matt 0 stars

9. GTA is a ridiculous franchise that should never see the light of day again. But if it helps the 360 in the war, then I'm for it. Anything to help knock Sony off their high-horse for at least one generation.

10. Funny how on Joystiq Suicide Ninja always talks about how he isn't a fanboy but wants to see the leader go down.

What's funnier is that Xbox fanboys are happy about having Microsoft buy THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY, making it another monopoly. Don't you see the problem here? You want it turned into another Explorer/Windows/MSN messenger/Office crap where quality lacks as there is nothing else to choose?

Can't Microsoft make games of their own just like Nintendo? Oh wait, no they can't. Bungie, Rare, Lionhead, Mistwalker... Take-Two, here we come!

Posted at 2:16PM on Apr 10th 2006 by boots 0 stars

11. Just rumours. The PS2 sold over 100million units last gen. GTA SA sold about 13million nearly all of that was for PS2.

You think theyre gonna go over to 360 jus coz Microsoft are arrogant enough to think they can buy the franchise, and then piss off their millions of playstation fans. I dnt think so. Thats called commercial suicide.

And why do all u Microsoft "whores" care so much. Yes thts right, ure jus a bunch of whores. Wanking over Microsoft coz they are rich and they think they can buy everything. They dnt even make their own games. Theyre trying to monopolise everything yet u whores are too stupid to realise Microsoft is BAD for gaming.

Just wait until the PS3 comes out and blows the 360 out of the water by selling more than 360s 137,000 units in Japan in mere minutes.

And when all the amazing PS3 exclusive games, yes REAL exclusives not jus PC games, come out I bet all of you 360 owners will go and buy a PS3, as it will be the better system with its better and more original titles. Beautiful innovative first party games like Shadow of the Colossus and many 3rd party exclusives as they have had every gen. You dnt get original games on the xbox like you do on the playstation, thts the big difference and thats why PS3 will be better.

12. oh vj ..............lol oh boy go and give sony a good bj okay lol

Posted at 3:47PM on Apr 10th 2006 by alex 0 stars

13. VJ you are a moron. I would tear apart your argument, but it would be a waste of my time and everyone elses on this board, as it is apparant that you have your head way too close to Sony's anus to even think clearly. VJ would you please come up for some air... it would greatly benefit everyone.

Posted at 3:52PM on Apr 10th 2006 by arsamore 0 stars

14. Everyone, it's ok. VJ just doesn't enjoy playing video games and has never experinced playing a 360 in his own home. He also probably just has a playstation 2 sitting under his 13" tv of his moms basement because he thinks that is what all the cool people in his mind are playing with.

15. I hate to jump into these things, but...

I really get tired of people getting pissed about Microsoft *buying* their way into the market, because Sony did *exactly* the same thing. When the first Tomb Raider for both Saturn and PS1 came out, it was a huge success. Seeing that it was a money maker, Sony bought the exclusive rights to the series. Sony had much more money than SEGA. Same thing happened with EA sports on the PS2 and not on Dreamcast. Same thing happened with the GTA series. Soul Calibur 2 for the Gamecube outsold both the PS2 and Xbox versions because of Link. Sony couldn't have that, so they bought the exclusive rights to Soul Calibur 3.

So, let's not hear any more bitching about a company buying exclusive rights, they do it *all* the time. The difference is that Microsoft actually has enough money to outbid Sony, which is something SEGA and Nintendo could never do.

Posted at 5:07PM on Apr 10th 2006 by Sense 5 stars

16. Well I think it would be nice for Microsoft to get the exclusive rights even just for a year or so to Grand Theft Auto series. If they can get complete exclusive rights that would be even better for Microsoft. But for gamers as a whole I think that the companies that get exclusive rights to a certain game or franchise is a bad thing. It does not promote healthy competition.

But I agree with Sense, it is funny how when Microsoft buys up companies or signs exclusive rights to something it is looked on as bad, or they are the evil empire bent on world domination. But the fact that Sony has been doing it for years is just over looked.

VJ, check out the screen captures. The games that have matching titles such as Brothers In Arms do not look any different on the Xbox 360 as on the PS3. So all your beautiful graphics are in the here and now with the Xbox 360 not some distant future mythical console that is suppose to do everything except pack your lunch and vacuum your floor.

17. They are smart to go for this. I bought a PS3 ONLY to play GTA when it came out. And never played another game on it aside from GoW.

18. great idea by msoft.... sorry sony lol, now we got gta, halo, fable, um rare, um and mad other games that kick PS3's ass lmao ps3 isnt even gonna come out lol and i already got my next generation console lmao iight holla at me sony 1

19. Yeah, because everybody's waiting for the Pi? game.

I suppose it's just me but I thought that the last GTA was getting kind of tired anyway but would fit with the situation they bought Rare in. The used to be great but now just pretty good category.

20. Hay VJ, you are a moran. Shadow of the collosus? Give me a break. You are one of the biggest examples of a Sony fanboy. You dont even know a Damn thing about their buissness ethics, yet you slam Microsoft? Nintendo and Sony games tend to bore me. Everyone keeps bragging about the new nintendo controller. It sounds like a toy to me. Who wants to play Zelda and Mario Kart again? Not me.
