You could spend $20 on a bare PCB that requires you to remove the hard drive if you want to access what's inside, or you could spend $40 and get Datel's XSATA device. It sits between the hard drive and the console, allowing the 360 and your PC to "share" the hard drive using a simple high-speed USB 2.0 port.
It's a pretty slick looking solution, but I'd be hot-dogged if I added glowing blue-LEDs to my 360! How about a model that matches the 360's white plastic?

Pretty cool, but why blue? Blue is synonymous with Sony/Playstation, green is synonymous with Microsoft/Xbox. Would it have been so hard to make it green to go with the "motif"??

$40 is way too expensive.

Meh, I think $40 isn't too bad. It's the price of a VGA cable set, for what is basically a SATA->USB adapter for the 360's HDD. If somebody makes a program that'll let me put music on my 360 from my computer, this'll be on the top of my list.

"It looks great too, with blue laser light giving a real cool edge to your console."
You would think GREEN would have made some sense?

#3 microsoft made that magical program for you already, on the 360. you can stream music and pictures from any networked windows xp system just go the the 3rd tab and select music, computer should walk you through. i really don't know why mircrosoft doesn't advertise such features more. in my opinion they are some of the best features of the system

#5 I know that you can stream music; I do it all the time. I've even got transcoder360 installed so I can stream my DivX and .OGM videos.
What doesn't work, though, is streaming music while playing a game, or doing anything else that you would typically do while using a console.
Also, the streaming feature doesn't help me if, say, I take my console to a friend's house, or if I just plain don't want my PC on. I'm not retarded.

it works fine for me. I stream music while playing 360 games, downloading content, chatting and sending messages all the time. What it doesn't work for are the xbox games played on the 360.

That's beside the point. Streaming still doesn't help me take my music to somebody else's house, now does it?

His response is not "besides the point". It would be if you hadn't said it didn't work.
Works fine for me as well. I stream just under a thousand albums from my linux server.

I'll probably end up getting one of these at some point, but I'd much rather have one that matched than one that stands out from everything else in my entertainment center.

I keep my photos and music on a Portable USB Hard drive which I copy my data to through my Laptop...then I just keep it in my Stereo cabinet plugged into the 360. I still stream Yahoo subscription songs via the network as the DRM keeps the songs from playing if I copy them over to the portable HD.
There was an interview with someone at MS where they said that MS has looked into allowing videos to play for those that don't have Media Center. I'm hoping that competition from Sony will prompt them to update the 360 to be able to do this. Of course most people will be using Vista Media Center edition in the future...and most decent computers these days seem to come with Media Center already as well.
I'm hoping this will be announced at E3 along with HD-DVD external drive plans and other updates like background downloading and improved layout of the 360 blades.

Push the guide button and change the music to your computer to access your music for streaming during a game. You can change tracks from the guide as well.
If you want to "bring it to your friend's house" then get an external USB hard drive to put your music on. Format it FAT32.
