HDTV guide for the Xbox 360

The guys at TeamXbox.com have released an insightful feature going over the best hi-def setups for the 360. In it they describe each major display technology from CRT to DLP and beyond. However, they left out projectors because they feel like these are better suited for a living room.

Either way, this wealth of information should help you make an informed decision if you haven't already invested in an HDTV. And for each technology, they also give you their top five suggestions. Too bad they're still out of my league.

Yea i bought a Samsung SlimTV and it look's great, built in HDTV tuner and HDMI inputs plus its only 16 inches deep, it does weight 120 lbs though, i mean i play my 360 on a LCD before i got the tv, and i can say that you have to play it on a CRT is way better then anything else except the most expensive plasmas its the high contrast ratio all CRT tvs like mine are like 5000:1 the LCD i was using before only 500:1, which i can tell is the biggest difference between the televisions. The colors look so blah on a lcd, I mean i think its the best bet, besides most 360 are in peoples rooms and not in the living room, mine is in my living room, but then i agian I live in a apartment so space is limited.

CRT are cheaper and better quality,

but i can't hang it on the wall

OR

LCD can hang on the wall, but image quality is shit and cost four times as much,i think its clear which is better for gamers.

ill stick CRT until the new plasma's come down from that ridiculous $10k price tag.

Man...if your gonna post at least glance at the article. Time and time again we have been hearing that avoid plasma if your a gamer. Burn in...Burn in...Burn in...and this article brings it up once again.

"But the biggest drawback found in plasma is the image burn-in. After an extended period of time, static images left on the screen (such as a network logo or a game menu) can produce a ghost or shadow that remains permanently on the screen. This forces you to avoid watching TV channels with station logos or pause video games and DVD movies for long periods of time. "

Im not gonna advocate one over another but I will say that I have a 42" DLP from samsung that is godly....

But just make sure that you read up on this before you drop the money. I spent 3 months researching before I dropped my cash...

Man. I upgraded my TV from a (broken) Samsung 42"S CRT-based rear-projection unit at the same time I got my 360. Out of all the technologies I looked at (using a reference DVD no less) I ended up going with a Hitachi 51" CRT-based RPTV. Say what you will about this "old" technology but I couldn't be happier. The picture quality is immaculate, clearly beating out many other mid- to high-end plasmas. I couldn't even tell the solid difference between it and a DLP except it sure wasn't worth the jump in price.

If you're looking for a good HDTV and don't mind the depth of a rear-projection unit, I really recommend stacking a Hitachi CRT RPTV against the competition. I paid $1400 for image quality and size rivaling $4000+ plasmas, and I still can't believe it.

=D

It's always interesting that the people who complain about burn in with a Plasma TV never seem to own a Plasma TV. I've had a Panasonic Plasma for about a year now.

I play games on it.

I watch TV with logos on it.

I watch Football with static scoreboards on it.

I watch 4:3 shows with static black bars on it.

As I type this I'm watching the Bucs vs. the Redskins on ABC HD and there is a nice black bar with the scores running along the bottom of the screen. That bar will be there for the next 3 hours, and it'll probably be there for several upcoming games as well. Am I worried? Nope, watched about a zillion bowl games last week too.

I do all the things that are supposed to result in burn in (according to those who don't own a plasma TV at least) and yet I have absolutely no burn in. Burn in just isn't that much of an issue anymore. The real reason people don't buy a plasma is because they cost a hell of a lot more than an LCD or DLP.
