Bug Bash testing Xbox Live on the PC

The other day beta testing for the upcoming Xbox Live and Windows PC integration started with a bash ... a Bug Bash. Xboxic got the details and found out those who signed up for the PC version of Xbox Live were invited to test the service with a free "game" download called Bug Bash. Once downloaded, beta testers could start up the "game" and be signed into Xbox Live via their PC. What's most interesting is that all the Xbox Live features were enabled and running including their friends list, text messaging, and even voice chat. Though, all the Xbox Live functionality was only accessible through the Bug Bash game and wasn't a stand alone application, something that'll hopefully be fixed when the service goes live this May. Was anyone bashing bugs the other day and if so (ignoring your NDA) what did you think?

Get your vote on! Who's prettier: 360, PC, or PS3?

After Gamespot released its comparison of 360 graphics versus PS3's, ZDNet felt obligated to get the people's opinion. ZDNet's own Adrian has posted a poll asking which console has the best graphics with your options being the Xbox 360, PS3 or a PC. I don't know how fair it is to compare consoles whos software development cycles are a year apart, but I'm throwing caution to the wind and voting on the prettiness factor none the less. And of course I would never tell you who to vote for (even though this is Xbox 360 Fanboy), but if you look at the image above, you'll see a certain winner emerging with around 50% of the votes. Take a look at the evidence, become edjamacated, and go vote!

Gears of War coming to PC ... maybe

In the latest holiday issue of PC Gamer magazine, there is a Microsoft advertisement showing a retail display for the "Games for Windows" PC games. And what game is pictured on the lower shelf squeezed between the PC versions of Shadowrun and Age of Empires III? Gears of War, you silly goose! This ad could just as well be "concept art" and just showing off Microsoft's big hitting video games, but why would they put a supposed Xbox 360 exclusive game like Gears of War in that ad if it wasn't going to be part of their Games for Windows marketing campaign? I'm betting all my chips on Gears of War coming to the PC in 2007, probably around August and only playable on Vista. Playing Gears on your PC, does that sound appealing to you?

360 HD-DVD on PC? You bet

One of our colleagues here at Weblogs sent us this link about using the 360 HD-DVD player as a cheap HD-DVD drive for PC. It looks like all you need is the right set of drivers and a playback program and voila! Instant, cheap HD-DVD goodness. The boys who discovered this solution -- UNEASYsilence -- were not satisfied with such an easy outcome, so they took the damned thing apart anyway. Check out the article if you'd like to see the Toshiba-powered guts of the HD-DVD player. Also worth noting, a Mac recognized the drive immediately, no drivers needed. Unfortunately, as there is no HD-DVD program available for the Mac, it will only play DVDs.

BFME2 expansion bewitches

So far EA has only announced the Battle for Middle Earth II: The Rise of the Witch King expansion pack for PC, but that doesn't mean we can't read the details and look to the future. Besides Lord of the Rings stuff, what other RTS experiences belong on the 360?

F.E.A.R 360 P.R.E.V.I.E.W

EuroGamer has some info on F.E.A.R 360's "instant action" mode:

It's not just for kicks though - the better you do, the better your end-of-level or post-death stats, which you're given on an analysis screen afterward. Not only that, but the game computes a final score for you and uploads it to Xbox Live leaderboards, which ought to encourage a bit of competition. Vivendi's also talked about "brand new multiplayer content created to fully utilise Xbox Live" so it's a fair bet Live will be employed for more than boards, too - although whether F.E.A.R. 360 will make use of the content recently added to the PC version, including new Control game-modes, is something Vivendi hasn't got anything to say about right now. More to come, presumably.

Those of us with under-powered PCs are counting on this port to deliver what our aging rigs cannot.

F.E.A.R confirmed for Xbox 360

F.E.A.R-mongers have long suspected that the frightenly good PC title is a logical port to to the Xbox 360 due to the system-crushing game's technological kinship with Condemned: Criminal Origins. Fear no more. The contents page from a future issue of OXM (scanned and posted in the Gamespot forums) is touting the first screenshots of the 360 version. The headline says "The most destructive shooter ever made tears up the Xbox 360." Hell yeah! Now let's hope Monolith scares up some new content.

Not to be confused with nameless F.E.A.R sequel also being developed for next-gen consoles.

Oblivion Girls Gone Wild

Since  I've already been tagged as 360Fanboy's resident horndog by some of our less priapatic readers, I'm going to refrain from going into too much detail about this topless mod for the PC version of Oblivion. Besides, according to the mod author, it's a serious boobie skin:

"Please note, this is a realistic nudity mod, not a pornographic one. The file included removes the bra welded to the skin of females of all races, showing things as most people know they are in the real world after removing upper body clothing. It will not show every female in the game as topless. I do this because I hate government/society/whatever forcing companies to 'protect our innocent population from seeing those evil dirty things 50% of them posess personally anyways' not because I'm trying to turn it into a porn game."

Sure, realistic nudity—like the sagging natives in National Geographic. Not bad if youre looking for realism and topless sword fighting on a late Friday night.  Ironically, we finally have a download that might actually be worth $2.50, not that you'll ever find it on Xbox Live Marketplace. Sometimes PC gamers have all the fun.
