There's nothing quite like ridiculously over the top violence to take the edge off, is there? It looks like the boys and girls at Bethesda are patently aware of this fact, as the latest batch of Fallout 3 screenshots have a bit of a gruesome flare to them. Of course, it's not all gibs. There are some nice shots of dilapidated structures, a nasty looking super mutant, and even a character or two. Check them out in the gallery below. While you're at it, don't forget to read Joystiq's E3 impressions of the game either.

The game looks spectacular, but for the first time I think I may actually use the "dial down the gore" option, if they include it like they did in previous installments. My wife has increasingly-squeamish reactions to games nowadays, and if I can preemptively silence such comments, it will work in my favor.
So I hope they allow you to dial back the gibs (and dial them up again when the missus has gone to bed).

ccc,
Try the used game shelf at a local game retailer.
I'm sure that compared to games now, they might not be anything that groundbreaking. But I remember that back when they were released, they did some stuff that most people hadn't seen before.

Whoops, forgot to mention that the first two are PC only. If someone was expecting to find them in the used xbox game section.

@ccc --- You can probably find 1, 2, Brotherhood of Steel bundled together at either Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.

Regarding this article:
I'm really anticipating this title. I'm anxious to see what Bethesda did that would outdo Oblivion with respect to gameplay mechanics is concerned. Obviously, the visuals are going to be different, given the time periods of each game.

@1 Try an Amazon search for Fallout. DVD collection includes Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics.
