It seems like more and more companies try to convince people that their "special edition" will be so much better, but it usually turns out pretty lame.
Cat helmets come to mind...

You think the cat Helemt was bad? Assassin's Creed Penny arcade comic says "Hello"

well, I guess I just had higher expectations. And you're right, some special editions are good, but I just think that in general they're a mimic to get the company more money. And hey, that's not really that bad of a thing, it helps them to make better games, right?

Vault Boy Bobblehead? That alone makes it worthy of purchase.

HAHAHA that's both awesome and so very lame. If this is the same in the UK then I may have to get it, but only if it equates to a £10 increase instead of a £20, lets hope the EA disease doesn't attack Bethesda.

only for fanboys?! pfft, I have never even hard of Fallout before Fallout 3, but I am definitely gonna get this :-D. i am a big time collector's edition, art book, and making-of fan so there is no way I can turn this down. The bobble-head just makes it all that much better.
yay fallout 3! :-D

I feel exactly the same. I've never played a Fallout game before but this seems like one of the only Collector's Edition that I won't feel stupid for purchasing. I would say that the only CE that I don't regret is the one for Bioshock. If I decide that I want a game and there is a CE available I feel compelled to buy the CE version of it. This has led to many poor purchase decisions (Assassin's Creed and Perfect Dark Zero probably being the most pointless CE's ever).

I am exactly the same way. I already love Bethesda so I have high hopes for the game even though I haven't heard of the Fallout series until this. I'm going to pre-order this asap.

Halo 3 hit it on the head, the big collectors edition was gone before you had a chance to order it and the smaller version was a decentish alternative.
I'd advise you both to get your hands on copies of both fallout 1 & 2 as they both rocked! I actually have my copies with me (most of my other PC games are in my parents house) but haven't had time to play them so they remain on my shelf hoping to be installed and played (if they'll work on XP). The graphics are such that they don't seem too out of date and the general story lines are very engaging. Fallout 2 is obviously better gameplay wise, but the initial story of fallout is too good to miss and 2 builds upon that and hopefully 3 will continue the legacy.

andyface, if you want to go all "purist", check out Wasteland. Fallout is considered to be the spiritual successor to Wasteland. If you ever played the original Bard's Tale series, you'll be familiar with its gameplay. Both are excellent titles of their era.
As for the CE version of this. The bobblehead sells it for me. I agree with an above poster about Assasian's Creed which definately was dissappointing (the CE version, not the game itself). Not just the comic but the figure, and the useless giant box, as well. Bioshock has been by far the best and even topped itself with the artbook. The bar was certainly raised by 2K Games but unfortunately, nobody is bothering to meet it.

Did I make it seem that I didn't like Assassin's Creed? I meant the CE not the game itself. The short unsatisfying comic and the horribly detailed really small figure was just a waste of the material it was made from. I'm torn on my Legendary edition Halo 3, I like it but I felt that it was not worth the $130 price.

I wasn't being purist just giving advise about awesome old games. No doubt Fallout 3 will be able to stand alone so there's no need to play the previous ones to know what's going on, but there was mention of references back to the original series (I think that was for this game, I've read so much about so many games recently) so I'm just spreading the old school love.
As for Wasteland, I kinda want to play it but at the same time I think the pixels would hurt my eyes (far too sharp), makes me wish I'd been more aware of games in 1988 (I'd have only been 4 though). Maybe if it and Bard's tale come out on XBLA I'll give em a go (you hear me game developers, gimme some old school Fargo stuffs)

If these are the same bobble heads that they are giving away at promo events... then they are pretty cool. They are also worth twenty bucks!

If I could run screaming to my local retailer with the preorder to this flailing my arms and holding my cash then I would. Tomorrow morning I will go plop my cash down to ensure my bitchin bobble-head and art book. Heal yeah.

Yea I would love to play the original Fallout games, but will they work on xbox 360 or are they just PC games? I dont have a PC right now, but, when I get the rest of the money, I am getting one built for me so I will definitely try to pick them up as well.
Yea, I really have bought the CE's of all the games I have wanted except for one. I got the Fable with bonus (I cant remember if its CE or not), Halo 3 Legendary, Halo 2 CE, Assassin's Creed CE, and PDZ. I didn't get the Bioshock CE, but my favorite by far have been the Halo 2 and Halo 3 editions. I really hope this lives up to the examples shown by other companies.

they're just for PC as far as I'm aware, there was no xbox when these two games where released. Brotherhood of Steel was the first xbox release, however that wasn't exactly great (from what I heard, I haven't actually played it)
