Major Xbox announcement coming tomorrow? [update 2]

Update 2: The announcement has been made. Click here for full details. We hope your weren't expecting too much.

Word on the street (that is, Gamertag Radio) is that a major Xbox announcement is dropping tomorrow, set to coincide with the final round of the Pac-Man World Championship. Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg dropped the hint via an instant message session with GTR's Godfree. What the hell is this announcement about? We have no idea, only Greenberg's cryptic words, "we have a secret unveil for gamers around the world that I think will go down in video game history."

What in the world could it possibly be? Does it have anything to do with Ignition, Microsoft's new music initiative? We've contacted Microsoft to see if we can dig anything up, and we'll let you know as soon as we hear anything.

In the meantime, start speculating! What could it be?

Update 1
: We've learned from Aaron Greenberg that the announcement will take place tomorrow between 12:30 and 1:30 pm Eastern Time. And, before this gets out of hand, we've heard rumblings that this announcement won't be huge, but that it should be relatively cool nonetheless.

82. Anoly - no offense to MS's work to make gaming more interactive, but that looks like a terrible idea, especially for people with hairy arms/necks... not to mention the fact that the primary issue with the camera is that I don't want to be jumping all over my living room playing games all the time, I want to kick back on my couch.

84. After doing a little digging, Blizzard is opening beta testers for a new game.

Could the WoW on 360 rumors become a reality? With cross platform gaming? Or maybe WoW2 on both platforms?

I think this would qualify for gaming history, as they could instantly steal the lives from millions more innocent people.

"20. New, gauranteed non-faulty 360's. I know I'd be happy.
Nine and counting."

Now, that is far from just bad luck. Move your 360 out of the Boiler Room. Learn to take care of your equipment.

90. I heard from a Samsung rep at my job recently (consumer electronics) that MS has paired up with them to have a new 3D game mode on some Samsung tvs. This will allow 2 people wearing 3d glasses to see completely different images on the tv screen. 2 player games with no splitscreen? I'm in! I don't know if its true, but I've heard it from a couple reps. I haven't heard any official announcements yet, but could this be it?

91. Ignition is already announced, though. To tell people from a video game specific site to watch out for an announcement that's already been made via press releases seems dumb for so many reasons.

92. WHAT A GIGANTIC DISAPPOINTMENT!

Today Microsoft Corp. and NAMCO BANDAI Games made video game history by unveiling the “Pac-Man Championship Edition” — featuring the first new Pac-Man mazes in more than 26 years — available only on the Xbox 360™.

The “Pac-Man Championship Edition” is the same beloved “Pac-Man” game played in arcades of the ’80s but is updated with new features that former “Pac-Man” fanatics and new generations of fans alike will love. It includes new mazes that dynamically change shape during gameplay, six new timed game modes, new soundtracks and high-definition (HD) graphics. Details include the following:
• Classic 2-D “Pac-Man” presentation with a new, modern look in HD
• Six new, timed game modes:
 The Championship Mode. This is the main game mode designed by NAMCO BANDAI Games and Iwatani specifically for the championship round of the Xbox 360 Pac-Man World Championship. This mode – as well as all others within the “Pac-Man Championship Edition” – features redesigned mazes with wide maze walls and a widescreen configuration to better enable high-speed game play. Timed limit of five minutes.
 Challenge Mode 1 (Patience and Reward Course). This mode is an evolution of the Championship Mode. Patience mazes strategically offer fewer Power Pellets and Reward mazes provide a large number of Power Pellets – providing unique challenges and rewards for the player. Timed limit of 10 minutes.
 Challenge Mode 2 (The Darkness Course). In this mode, only the area directly around Pac-Man and the Ghosts is visible and the maze walls are completely hidden. Timed limit of 10 minutes.
 Extra Mode 1 (The Freeway Course). An extremely high-speed mode for advanced players, this mode features warp-speed Pac-Man and Ghosts and plenty of tunnels. Timed limit of five minutes.
 Extra Mode 2 (The Manhattan Course). A mode inspired by the streets of Manhattan — the home for the first-ever Xbox 360 Pac-Man World Championship. Timed limit of five minutes.
 Extra Mode 3 (The Overall Course). A mix of all other modes resulting in extreme mazes for the most devout Pac-Man fans. Timed limit of 10 minutes.

Damn you, Greenberg! You're a f*cking tool!

97. I stayed on the PC for that? They make these "major" announcements telling us to stay on the PC for an hour when we could be PLAYING our 360s instead. Still, I didn't get my hopes up. Pretty lame. :)
