Update: Looks like Microsoft's Shane Kim has officially quashed this rumor. Details here.On Monday, Take-Two announced that it was delaying its annual meeting as a result of major shareholders requesting that CEO Paul Eibeler step down. The company delayed the meeting in order to come up with alternative solutions, with the most likely alternative being to sell the company. A trustworthy source from Rockstar Vancouver has told WorthPlaying that Microsoft may have already put in a bid to purchase the company (or at least expressed interest in doing so). With Take-Two in tow, Microsoft would own Grand Theft Auto, one of the most successful franchises in the industry. While this is a rumor of the highest order, the possibility is certainly intriguing.

Yeah, I know. But Sony is pretty stupid as a whole. You never know how desparate of a move they'll make anymore, lol.

One word, if this is true:
PWNED!
@18, They don't have to keep it only to their console, if its a sports game. Everytime a ps3 owner buys the game it would go to microsoft, so why would they not sell them to other consoles, if they make even more cash.

take two and 2k sports are two different companies. why do people keep getting them messed up? 2k helped with oblivion, and all ovious sports titles. take two makes grand theft auto...and uhh...yeah, what else?

Dapper Dan did you read the link with the ANNOUNCED?
Here so you don't have to.
"Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities recently downgraded the company's stock and suggested that Take-Two could eventually be bought and sold in pieces, including its 2K Sports line."
^^ 2k sports line. 2k is a sister company of take-two. Just like movie studios have sister companies. Take-two happens to be the parent company of 2k though.
You might need to do some homework Dan. Just saying.
Anyone else realize that if microsoft does this it takes away "The Darkness" from the ps3?

It's just as likely that Sony buys Take-Two. They need to do SOMETHING soon to turn this tide of bad news. Having GTA back would be huge for them.
Obviously, I'd prefer to see Microsoft snag Take-Two, but let's not get too excited.

I personally have been toying with this idea for awhile. I heard Take Two was selling and thought how awesome it would be if Microsoft bought it. Then, possibly, not only would GTA have been stolen from PS3 as an exclusive, it wouldnt show up on PS3 whatsoever. Also, Microsoft would push for an online modea if not an MMO so Live can be used well. I am very happy with this.

Corncob, you're exactly right.
Microsoft might be able to benefit from some of the properties or studios that Take2 has under their wing, but they would necessarily put less value on them than someone like EA or Ubisoft, because they wouldn't be continuing to use them cross-platform.
Conversely, some of the other publishers might want the publishing contracts or titles, but wouldn't want the studios. EA probably wants the exclusive cross-contract MLB license, but could potentially care less about Visual Concepts, because those guys would all bolt if they tried to bring them in house again.
Rockstar on the other hand would seem almost a match made in heaven for Ubisoft.

If MS bought Take Two they would own three of the biggest franchises on the market -
Halo
GTA
Gears of War
No one could stop them
and personaly I think that would be awesome because 360 and windows are my favorite platforms
