Big Huge Games has announced that Catan, the Live Arcade version of the classic board game, will be arriving on Xbox Live Arcade in the 1st quarter of this year. While this was somewhat expected, given Microsoft's recently announced lineup of Arcade games, it's still a good sign that the game should show up soon. Also confirmed is that Catan will support three to four players over Xbox Live and that AI opponents will be available. The designer of the original board game and the Arcade version, Klaus Teuber, has been working closely with Brian Reynolds to create challenging opponents. Teuber even admits that he has lost several game to the CPU.
If you can't get your fill of Catan, be sure to visit the game's official website, where you'll find screenshots and strategies for the upcoming game.

Only 4 players? seems like an unnecessarily low number for Xbox Live.

The original game only supported 4 people anyways until the expansions came out to support more people.

Game designers aren't the best at playing their own games. So I don't know how much that statement is worth.

The 360 needs more multiplayer and party games, so this is a step in the right firection.

They must add the Cities and Knights of Catan to make this any good. Without that I don't think I can play.

Oh man, my buddy bought all the Catan board games. He would go ga-ga over this. I never got into it but now that I don't need to play with live peeps I might check it out. Yes, I'm a loner.

I've never liked 5-6 player Catan games. Maybe it'll be a free download in 30 days.
I can see it now, in 90 days: Seafarers - 800 point expansion with 125 more achievement points, and Cities & Knights 800 points with 125 additional as well.

PS. The game promises 8 unique AI characters, too.

This is unbelievably awesome. I've been searching for exact release date info for a while and this quarter only leaves 40 more days MAX!

The game looks like it will be quite good but do we need ANOTHER board/card game on XBLA?
The correct answer is no.
