Major Nelson brings word that a new 360 patch has been loosed on the world. The patch fixes some 1080p display problems experienced with certain TVs, most notably Sony LCDs and some Samsung models. The patch also promises to improve the performance of wired headsets when used with wireless controllers. Finally, the patch makes changes to the recently played list to improve accuracy. We're not really sure what that means. Has anyone downloaded the patch yet? Does it fix all your problems, answer your prayers, and grant you all of your wildest dreams?[Thanks, Chris Hipple]

Nothing visually different. I downloaded it this morning and quickly browsed through the menus and didn't see anything new.
All I can say is that I have an original system and I have never seen the "red lights" Also, I like how my system used to freeze up a lot and now it never happeneds.
My 1080p worked before this patch today, but I tried it out on a mitsubishi dlp last week and it didn't work. Hopefully it fixed that.

I saw some problems with the "recently played" list. (Some games simply weren't getting bumped to the top of the list when I played them.) But I've never had trouble with my Samsung LCD playing 1080p through the VGA connector. I heard about problems with the Sonys, but Best Buy said that Sonys have trouble with any video game system ...

somewhat off topic : does the VGA 360 connector provide a better picture than the component cables on a 720p set?

I have been having issues getting logged onto and bumped off of Live since the patch that enabled the HD-DVD player et all. I am hoping this solves that issue.
Anyone else having the login issue?

Well my 360 had been acting up recently, but immediately after the patch I had the Three Blinking Red Lights. After a call to 4myxbox the console is off to repair land. I have a suspicion that they knew it was part of a bad batch. They asked me very few questions before telling me it was covered under warranty. Two weeks, no console.
Anyone selling a Wii?

Good news for me, as I just bought a Bravia KDL40W2000, I'm sitting here having problems with 1080p on my Dell 2407WFP though.. as the 360 can't output 1920x1200@60hz. This is over composite, mind, it should work over VGA a cable which I have left far too long to pick up.
This patch did nothing to rectify the Dell problems, but I think that's more Dells fault.

all I know is that ever since I've had my X-box I would try to watch moves with hdtv turned on, and the image would periodically black out.
and I have this problem with my X-box live disconnecting. after i turn it on adn go into an online game. almost like clock work it disconnects. then boom it's fine. since the patch i still get disconnected. but i haven't noticed anything new when watching videos.

Anyword on whether or not this update helped with the washing out of the vga cable on some tvs? (not necessarily at 1080p) I've had a problem with the colors not being as vibrant as component when i use VGA at 720p.

That is because you are too much used to the over saturated colors that component provides. I was in the same boat with you when I jumped to VGA. Everything looks so washed out, but the details were crisp and the colors are more vibrant to me now. I won't go back to component. Also with component on a DVD will only get you to 480p, but watching a DVD through VGA will upconvert that 480p to 720p.

Component for Dell 2407FPW is limited to 1080i. 1080p doesn't work (not sure if it's supported) but I can say that 1080p (or rather the close approximation) over VGA does work. Looks really good, but there are some ghosting issues which I haven't check to see if that was fixed.

After the update my xbox started acting very funny. it had scambled graphics during bootup and the nwouldnt boot up at all. gave me the blinking red light of doom. i then unhooked my vga cable and used the rca instead and it is working completely fine. they really need to test these patches a little better. no computer monitor play for me til they fix it.
