Of course the careful wording of "no plans" could mean the title may see life on other platforms. As we've mentioned before, the initial announcement of the title was made via a Sony branded device ages ago (the first Star Ocean 4 trailer was on PSP) and based on the history between Sony and Square Enix a PS3 version is a possibility. Either way, Microsoft fans are in store for one of the most well known and respected Japanese role-playing franchises from developer tri-Ace. As it stands, Star Ocean: The Last Hope will launch on the Xbox 360 exclusively in 2009 ... for now.

At the same time, what better place to advertise your next Star Ocean game than on a Star Ocean game? I don't know that that in and of itself implies too much.

Advertising aside Tony,
I wonder if this will be a JRPG franchise that can actually sell some xbox 360s in Japan?
I know the number 1 selling game for a while was Idol Master. I think it broke some records. That game where your the manager of young wanna-be ultra-cute japanese teenage singers. Which is not bad for a new IP.
I do wonder if this established intellectual property will sell enough copies. Speaking of which, I have to read my star ocean 1-3 books I have in Japanese again before this gets released.

whether it comes to the 360 or the ps3 they can keep it. turn based japanese rpgs are all the same and they suck.

Nah man. I mean some people like yourself probably don't like turn based JRPG but some other people like myself are JRPG fans and we still welcome turn based =). But personally, I play JRPG for story and breathtaking cutscenes and of course leveling up so I can PWN computer enimes. Haha. I'm pretty sure battle system would be different from traditional JRPG since it'll be developed by Tri-Ace as well.

Well, that and Star Ocean doesn't use a typical turn based battle system either.

Thank you, Jerkface, for wasting your time to tell us your opinion. Too bad it means nothing to anyone.

I don't think I would go so far as to calling someone a "Jerkface", but I agree with you. You either love JRPG or you hate JRPG. I love them, so that is all that matters to me.

Uh, I only called him "Jerkface" because it's part of his user name. :P

It's probably a timed exclusive for the 360. A publisher is often contractually prohibited to say anything about a release on a competing platform till a certain date. Same thing happened with Bioshock.

I find this shocking. The whole Star Ocean series is on Playstation and then they go and do this. Playstation really dosen't have the power over the industry it once did.

Actually, the series started on the Super Famicom. So, when you think about it, this has already happened once before. Here's another "shocker": the same thing happened with the Final Fantasy series moving from SNES to PSone with FF7.

Eternal Sonata + Ikaruga + Star Ocean = I guess it's worth my getting a 360. I've been trying my best to hold back but I'm not sure how much longer I can hold up. T_T

@ Fiefdom ....I hear ya man. I love my PS3 to death and even though I am a Sony fanboy, I am a more of true gamer...I put games frist. If this goes exclusive I see myself buying a 360, but the hardware just scares me...and I like to put in 6-8hours of gameplay on my RPGs per sitting. NG2 and GoW are games any true gamer should play. Hope fully by the time this and infinite Undiscovery are released there will be a new and reliabe 360 model out.

trust me dude, if u buy an XBOX 360, it wont fail [unless u stick it in an enteryainment center cabinate].
i bought an X360 Core at launch & it failed after a year - now thats the earliest motherboard, GPU, etc. & it lasted just over a year - i then got sent a new console [again core] & its been going strong ever since - hasnt crashed at all.
all u have to do is keep it well ventilated & it will last atleast a couple of years minimum.
i keep mine vertical on a couple of shelf brackets [no shelf] - that way, none of its vents are blocked : )

hey quick question is Star Ocean like Final Fantasy were the stories are not collected or is the story connected in each of the Star Oceans?

They are connected. IIRC, the second game in the series took place something like 20 years after the first. Till the End of Time's story was hundreds of years after those games, though. That said, each game in the series is definitely playable as a standalone game. There's no real need for you to play the previous games to "get" the story.

Just like the "Bioshock is not coming to the PS3,enough already" comments from 2K.
I'll believe it when I see it.

These games don't do well on 360, Microsoft should put their wallet away and stop trying to aggressively enter the Japanese market. And Xav, how about you highlight the fact that this is good for 360 rather than that it's bad for PS3. You make yourself look like an idiot.
