Assassin's Creed is pulling in a mixed bag of scores since its launch this week, with reviews ranging from a crazy perfect 100 to a very disappointing 67 given out by Planet Xbox 360. According to metacritic,
Assassin's currently has 15 reviews posted with the average rating working out to be around 84 out of 100. It's an average rating that is pretty good, but far from 90+ games like
BioShock,
Halo 3,
Orange Box and
CoD4. So what's the problem? Well, the low reviews seem to focus on the game's negatives like a short campaign, repetitive sequences and odd design decisions all tainted with (what we feel to be) a bit of over expectation. It's a classic case of disappointments weighing greater on the review scale than the positives.
We haven't had a chance to play the retail build of the game quite yet, so we're interested in hearing what those of you who have played it think. Has
Assassin's Creed fulfilled your every hope and desire or has its minor imperfections ruined the experience? Tell us what's up. Until then, we'll just wait and see where the game's average moves after more reviews get tallied.

Assassins Creed opens a slew of things that I have never done before in a game...like climb anything, pick-pocket for information and walk away from some guard who just randomly dropped to the ground.
I find it hard to grasp the reviewers take on a game called Assassins Creed and call it repetitive... Assassin, you are an assassin and you assassinate. Lets take God of War, you bring war, that means killing a lot of people over and over.
I just raise the question in my mind, what did these reviewers want to break up the assassinations? A cliche button sequence where you have to match it perfectly to kill a boss? Or a long range sniper sequence?
I think that game is amazing; from the crowd reactions to the city design.

I am completely baffled as to how people are not enjoying this game. There may be some repetition, but what is wrong with repeating a good thing?
I feel very much the way I did when Tenchu Z came out (one of the best 360 titles to date, with some of the worst reviews) that people are so obsessed with finishing the game, that they forget to enjoy the journey.

Well I think the game isnt for everyone. Its a GREAT game dont get me wrong. But it has to appeal to the right type of gamer. I reserved this game for my boyfriend for his b-day. I watched all the trailers/demos you could see. I was really hhyped up for this game just as much as he was. Then it came out and we played it together. Now it was that I didnt like the game, I just realized it wasnt the game for me. It Has too slow of a pace. I was welcomed into the gaming community with games such as Halo, Gears of War, & Call of duty. Now those are my types of games. Fast pace, Quick results. But Assasins Creed on the other hand is very slow. It has a great story line from what I've seen. I mean sure the assassinations are amazing and very detailed, but the time and effort it takes to get to the point, is not worth my time. This game is souly stealth. Which now I know is not my thing.
So great detailed graphics, awesome abilities (climbing buildings) story line is great, but very slow paced. depending on what you are looking for this might or might not be the game for you...

I've only just begun to play the game....
Seems to fall into the same category of Bioshock, in that the gameplay can get repetitive if you allow it to. Seems like there's plenty of ways to handle any given situation, and for the creative gamer, Assassin's Creed is a very interesting sandbox-style release.
One gripe: Altair's VO is awful... (like Jade Empire). Why the hell does my Middle Eastern assassin protagonist sound about as American and vanilla as humanly conceivable??? Really, really poor casting there.
SPOILER ALERT:
Another gripe? So far all of the contemporary/futuristic elements feel completely tacked on, and seem to exist only for the purpose of setting up a franchise. So far it seems like there is no reason either dramatically or gameplay-wise for the constant interruptions and laughably boring modern transitions. Very, very poor design choice. I would have actually preferred a stock loading screen, which is something I never thought I'd say...
When you actually get to play as Altair, and are free to roam the Mid-Eastern gameworld, the game is an absolute joy. Why oh why did Ubisoft tack on all of the modern day bullshit?
As excited as I was for Assassin's Creed and as happy as I am with the parts of the game I expected to play, the constant cutaways that take you out of Altair's period almost completely kill the game for me, despite how great everything else is.

It's amazing. The first "Great" game for the 360. Halo has been done... twice. Oddly enough so has Orange Box (with Portals being the amazing exception). And as far as short, I think I'm maybe 1/4th through the game and I've been at it for 5 hours now (straight I might add, I can't get off... except to write this that is.)

ok honest female opinion.. This game is a great game for someone who doesn't mind doing stuff over and over. For me if I started to get bored i would climb the rooftops kill some guards with my throwing knives and when i was out pickpocket those big scary guys. I don't mind repetition that means i know what to look for but what I didn't like was that the guards will chase you for anything. crazy person pushes you they should get arrested not you.. moving too fast chase.. ride your horse anywhere near the town entrance a chase.. just climb a ladder and they chase you.. maybe i left my Frisbee up there and I needed it.. however the thing that really was a disappointment was the ending.. I know it is a 1 of 3 game but come on I didn't even know it was over till i got that you beat the game achievement.. call me old fashioned but i like games that tell me when its over not leave me guessing... hopefully the next one is better...

Does anyone else think they should have just made Prince of Persia 4 instead of this? There isn't enough viloence to make it as fun as it could have been. Who wants to listen to people talk for hours....no one. Who wants to kill hundreds of guys with lots of combos.....everyone.

Assassin's Creed is very good game. It may not have completely lived up to its hype, but taken on its own itis one of my favorite games for the Xbox 360. Just don't listen to the hype for the game and judge for yourself.
