Assassin's Creed is pulling in a mixed bag of scores since its launch this week, with reviews ranging from a crazy perfect 100 to a very disappointing 67 given out by Planet Xbox 360. According to metacritic,
Assassin's currently has 15 reviews posted with the average rating working out to be around 84 out of 100. It's an average rating that is pretty good, but far from 90+ games like
BioShock,
Halo 3,
Orange Box and
CoD4. So what's the problem? Well, the low reviews seem to focus on the game's negatives like a short campaign, repetitive sequences and odd design decisions all tainted with (what we feel to be) a bit of over expectation. It's a classic case of disappointments weighing greater on the review scale than the positives.
We haven't had a chance to play the retail build of the game quite yet, so we're interested in hearing what those of you who have played it think. Has
Assassin's Creed fulfilled your every hope and desire or has its minor imperfections ruined the experience? Tell us what's up. Until then, we'll just wait and see where the game's average moves after more reviews get tallied.

I was going to rent it anyway, considering it is single player only, but I think also what a lot are saying is that it is like the original prince of persia in that the ideas are great and set up well, but their are repetitive things that lack polish. In other words, the sequel will kick ass.

"I'll have to disagree with you Tankard of Ale, AC's is just not that what everyone expected."
Your list proves his point.
1. FPS
2. FPS
3. FPS
4. TPS
5. TPS (well you don't shoot but it's about the same)
6. FPS
It just goes on and on. There's a good reason people are calling it the FPSBox now.

This should be a lesson for everyone. For how long now have people been so excited for this game and now listen to you all. haha! I love it! Not the game, but the fact that people get excited about stuff like this for 12 months or more before it's released, then when the game finally comes out it's nothing great. Way to set high expectations which almost always leads to dissapointment.

This game is fun...I'm not disapointed. It was pretty much what I expected to be honest. I wasn't expecting the game to have the depth of Elder Scrolls oblivion...It's sweet for what it is, and a unique experience. Worth going through at least once anyway.

I don`t see what the problem is with this game I like it alot. I have seen games that sucked and got high scores. Maybe Ubisft refused to pay them that`s why their giving it low scores. Or jade refused to date a couple of the reveiwers.

I like it, I'm educated, I've beat the game. This is why I like the game for more than a rent: it's unique. How many games are stepping out of those classic genre ideas of "It's a time of war" or "Space aliens and guns"? Not many. I think the intention of this was to have that great GTA feel to it, and it works. It's not amazing, but it is innovative. I'll be playing it for awhile.

Anyone else's Assassin's Creed freezing constantly? It took me an hour and a half to get through 20 minutes or so.

i've played about 2 hours of it so far. and honestly, it's just not grabbing me.
The whole "memories of the past" storyline is odd and doesn't quite work. I have a hard time being pulled into the game. It seems they used it as a cop-out for tossing together disjointed story segments. I'd much rather have just been immersed in the older time period and not have the whole "modern" side of the story.
The gameplay is repetitive. The controls could have been much better done. They are too complex for what they are doing.
While you can climb around a lot you can't really "interact" with people. As a sandbox environment it feels unfinished (although pretty).
The game forces situational controls on you that lock out certain moves from being used in certain situations. Very annoying. You are not 100% free to control your character at all times. You may wish to use stealth as an opener when doing a "save the villager" mini-mission but you cannot. The game locks it out. Overall this locking out of abilities is pretty lame.
Sadly it was overhyped and doesn't feel finished. The story and the game itself is not well executed. I'd give it 6/10.

Great game if you enjoyed the Prince of Persia series (minus warrior within).

I just got done with a break of it and so far AMAZING. I'm not a fan of 1 player games but this is pretty fun. Sure there are some problems, like climbing goes weird for a sec, but the graffics and sheer fun blank it out. 1 thing im not looking forward to is all the flags, glitch things, and other "run and find it" type of things listed in achievements. Otherwise way too fun.

1. Can we please propose a moratorium on the use of the phrase "mixed bag" by any and all video game reviewers? It's severely overused, it sounds ridiculous, nobody uses that phrase in conversation, and it makes it seem like no video game reviewer owns a thesaurus. KILL it.
2. Assassin's Creed: Told ya so. Hack-n-slash with a little stealth and a lot of badly-acted cinemas. No thanks. Give me a new Thief game instead.
3. Hype for games is getting stupid. Some games are selling based on hype alone. The developer shows all sorts of clips of the cinematic sequences, and very little gameplay. They sell the game based on the "badass" storyline, but then it turns out that the game is just another of its genre with no remarkable features whatsoever. This is getting tired. I think any developer who doesn't have the guts to put a solid, playable demo of their game on XBox Live for download shouldn't have the right to advertise and hype it to death. Let me try it. If it's good I'll buy it. If it sucks, I won't. I just notice that all the games that get the dreaded "ho hum, it's overhyped" label are the ones that don't EVER put a damned demo up. They EXPECT you to buy it before you ever play it.

You guys should read this article at http://www.penny-arcade.com/ it says that if you don't have a deadline to finish the game before it actually becomes a very good game once you have the time to complete all the smaller missions before going off to kill someone. It is only when you have to skip them and finish the game quickly that the repetitive aspects are seen one after the other.

Yeah, I just started and this game doesn't have nearly enough space marine elements and undead horror from beyond elements. I think if they had managed to add those, it could be a better game. How dare Ubi try and do something with those elements that are critical to a good game.
Seriously, If you don't like this game it is because you have been spoiled by too much awsomeness in the gaming scene over the last six months. I am gonna write these reviews off (wiht their credibility) with the people who didn't think Halo 3 was epic enough. Lol.

I love this game. I love how people on here just love to hate anything they can. "Everyone says its a good game then I'll say its a good game," or vise versa. You guys are like sheep, not true gamers. the worlds are massive I havent seen a game this big in awhile. Im not even half way thru and I've put multiple hours into it. Yes you can just go through do your two side missions and get on with it. That is not what the game is about. Its about exploring. So to all the sheep out there BAHHHH haha

Haven't played it yet so can't comment. However, I read a good, well-written (and seemingly honest) review here:-

(+) I think this game has some clumsy controls, but it is overall worth encouraging the development of similar games. It reminded me a lot of the True Crime series, but the camera controls were all mixed up.
(-) Personally I found the repetitive street people and prophets annoying. The street people had nothing good to say. Also it would have been nice to eliminate the religious rantings, but street prophets wouldn't shut up - even if you killed them.

I am looking forward to the sequels and love the idea behind the game. but all those people who currently are in love with the game, let me know how you feel after it's over. Also, I want to know where the joy of exploring ancient israel for flags is.
also wtf is up with the 400 guys all lined up when I load Jerusalem after coming from the Kingdom? they are fun to mow over with my horse though.
