Oh, that wacky Xbox Live Marketplace. So unpredictable. A TimeShift demo mysteriously sneaked its way onto XBLM last night, unbeknownst to unsuspecting gamers. TimeShift, if you don't know, is an FPS that makes novel use of time control powers. Developed by Saber Interactive and published by Sierra, we were fairly impressed with what we played at E3 last month. Give it a go and see what its shifty gameplay does for you. If you like it, you can pick up the full game on October 30th.

I played it last night. It looked pretty good but the splash damage on the crossbow seemed a little nerfed. Felt like something that might be a nice game to rent though I didn't like it enough to think I needed to buy it.

Game wasn't as pretty as you'd expect for something that's been in development for so long. Hell, it comes out the same month as Orange Box. HL2 is older and it looks better.
Rental.

It isn't exactly responsive and it doesn't feel cool...you know, pausing time and all. The graphics looks spectacular in screenshots but in reality they are nothing but decent. The age jump shows (2005 Xb platform to 2007 360 platform). But there are some new-gen effects which are really impressive like the rain and water effects, the slow motion and all.
Also the controls for grabbing enemy's weapon just doesn't work right. You have to press and hold X but it doesn't work most of the time. And to use a turret you have to precisely point at the turret and hold X. Kinda frustrating. The look sensitivity is slow too. It just doesn't feel smooth at Medium and at High it is too fast.
The combination of old-gen and new-gen graphics is well, weird. It looks odd and it stands out. Otherwise the game looks fun and i wouldn't mind having if the developers promise to polish the game even more.

Sweet!! I've been crazy interested in this game since the first video of the time warping I saw.
Too complicated? That's great!

I was able to play through the demo a couple of times and I don't think the time shift is difficult at all.
Don't get me wrong, the first time through I didn't know what the hell I was doing, but the second time I was able to use it to full effect and it really is great. There are little things added in that really make it worth mastering. Being able to use the timeshifting to your advantage is key. In the room with all of the enemies, you can freeze time, steal someone's gun, and run behind them. When the freeze ends, the guy with the missing gun looks down at his hands and the other enemies are still waiting for you to come out of cover.
I do agree the gun stealing and activating the turret can be frustrating, especially since you have a limited time to take someones gun.
I'll wait to see what reviews say about gameplay length before I decide whether this will be a rental or a buy.

Its ok. Not the best shooter in the world. I'd give it a 6/10. Its no where as good as bioshock.

I played this game like 7 times. You can get stuck with a granade rewind time til its off u, then pause time and shoot the guy with your cross bow. Its great. You can shoot kill someone, rewind time, and get killed by someone u just killed. The crazy antics u can do in the game is insane. if someone blows up the wall, u can rewind time to fix it for covver. You can blow someone up, and just keep doing it. stealing guns is a breeze you hit X what is the problem? graphics are ok. you have to remember it needs to be polished more. idno how multi player will work though, any thoughts?

Agreed: surprisingly meh. You'd think the controls would be smooth as glass after (seems like) 10 yrs of development - nope. Weapons are forgettable, uninspired ubiquitous 'super-suit' armor/health system, and the time controls.... annoying? The only glimmer of hope is the 'reverse time' game mechanic which ads a lot of variety to the gameplay - very promising - but with only a month or so left, this thing looks like a 6.5/10 at best.
The biggest head-scratcher is the visual effect during time bending - looks cool, but makes it nearly impossible to see anything in the distance. Very poor design choice...

...I should note I tried it after a 2hr session of Bioshock. Not exactly a fair comparison, but c'mon... the bar has been raised folks.

Tried it last night, felt pretty run-of-the-mill to me. Not shit, but not amazing either.
I'll have to give it another go but it just felt like a standard shooter with some Prince of Persia style time effects.
And 'standard' doesn't really cut it these days!!

Gears of War set the bar. Bioshock jumped up and nearly hit the bar, but was a tiny bit short. This demo looks up at the bar and cries for it's mommy.

When you would hit the time controls, it was tough to see what in the hell was going on. Did anyone else experience this?
I will buy this when it comes out. It was pretty fun.

graphically, looks better than halo 3, I mean halo 2.5. I enjoyed the timeshifting abilities and will probably have much more replay than bioshock [if it has multiplayer]

Really hard to recommend this game when there's so many others out there that are of the same caliber and better. Not to mention Halo 3 in less than 30 days from now.

The first Sands of Time game really did groundbreaking things with time control mechanics -- is this anywhere near as good?
I'll play the demo, and if it's any good, it'll go on my Buy Later (Much Later) list.

We're back to "bullet-time" based games. I thought developers were out of that phase... but obviously not (Stranglehold, I'm looking at you too). I was wholly uninterested in the demo. Seemed very generic.

This is definately going to be a rental, for me.
The game is very complicated, and the graphics are on par with Everquest 1. Well... they aren't THAT bad... maybe Descent 2.
