Ken Levine has already (and thankfully) denied this has anything to do with the promotion of objectivism (Rand's philosophy). He's said that although it uses Rand's work as an inspiration it's really more about the dangers of philosophical extremism. Something we should all welcome discussion of.

Ayn Rand sucks. The Fountainhead is dog-poo. The movie version makes the adolescent assininnity of the whole thing even more obvious. She's high on my list of "famous pop-philosophers I'd most like to smack in the face." Right up there with L. Ron Hubbard and Sean Hannity.

I've read "The Fountainhead" and "Atlas Shrugged." They're together a perfect cure for teenage angst (and then you hit, say, 26 or 27 and regular reason sets in.) :)

Anyway, after I read an article about how this is influenced by Ayn Rand, I started to notice how the initial premise of "Bioshock" pretty much takes the main concept of "Atlas Shrugged" and shows how it could have gone wrong.

I haven't looked up any of the achievements I haven't gotten yet. I'm too busy loving this damn game!

Dog-poo? While you may not subscribe to her theories it doesn't lessen the impact she's had. I guess it's to be expected if you also want to slap Hannity...

Agreed. Ayn Rand is not my cup of tea and either is Sean Hannity. I actually don't know one person who can listen to Sean Hannity and not giggle.

If anything, the game is an attack on the philosophies of Ayn Rand. **minor spoiler** The radio messages that warn that major illnesses can only be treated if you pay up front, or the funeral home that has a big marquee advertising the new low price for a "Youth Casket" illuminate the soulless nature of objectivism, especially in regards to commerce.

Ayn Rand is a amazing philosopher. I disagree to the comment that she was a pop philosopher.
She gives men a reason to live. 'not for others but the I' the idea that what is to be valued is only earned through hard work and determination is a central theme to ayn's works.
Also, Ayn stood for capitalism a central American theme!.
Think of the advertising for the casket, its capitalism. its selling the best product for the lowest price possible. its whats made America great!

Also, if you haven't noticed, the creator of Rapture's name, Andrew Ryan, almost sounds like its based on Ayn Rand in a way. Also it seems like "Objectivism" mind-set seems to be Andrew Ryan's whole reason for creating Rapture in BioShock it seems like.

Also, it seemed like they used allot of influences on this game and personally, it seemed to work out really well to make a game with a pretty surprisingly deep story. I've been loving the game so far (I got the PC version, though the 360 is far from left out, I still play it quite abit).

Also, on the whole file thing (like I said on Joystiq), its probity a generalized file (for rather 2K games or the Unreal Engine 3 itself) and doesn't actually suggest BioShock might come to PS3 so they shouldn't jump on that unless 2K says something about it themselves.

I was about to send that anagram in this morning as a tip. It just occurred to my brother and I as we played through the first couple levels of the game last night. I should have known people would realize it before us.

be careful with this game - i became quite sick after playing it for the first time - bioshocked in fact - i think it plants a neural virus in your brain to cause sickness
