Friday's Penny Arcade pertained to last week's XBLA release Catan, starting off with the revelation of Gabe, of all people, sitting down to play a round. Obviously, that's slightly out of character, although it is revealed in the accompanying podcast that Mike actually has played the real life counterpart, and much to everyone's surprise, hated the game. Today's strip is a continuation of the storyline, but no longer relates to Catan anymore, for obvious reasons. We spent the better part of our weekend trading wool for ore, what about you? Expect a full X3F review on Catan to come later this week.

Catan so far is the best game on XBLA imo! So glad they added it. That's pretty much all i've played since it came out.

Very disappointed -- I downloaded the demo and it looks almost certain that you can't play with more than one person per console. I thought this would be a fantastic way to avoid the hassle of clearing enough table space to play the tiles-and-tokens version, but it looks like I'll have to pass. It's just not worth buying a whole separate 360 (and Live sub) just to play with 2 people in the same room...

He goes on to say that the REAL reason that MS is strong-arming Epic to charging for these maps is because "Epic cost MS a billion dollars" MN said it's because of insisting that the 360 have at least 256K ram. He also insulted his listeners (I'm one of them!!) who were complaing about having to pay 800 MS points for the maps Epic said should be FREE!!! Check it out!!

Catan is a lot of fun. After playing the board game and expansions for years, it's cool to play with people you don't know. Something about conning a noobie out of thier 3 ore for a brick is soothing.

I love Catan and the boardgame it came from. One of my all time favorites. It really started the wave of great boardgames we now have that came out of Europe and later the US.
A quality XBLA game in my opinion!
