1. Ultimate Spiderman? Psychonauts? FINALLY!!

Sad part is I wish they were able to add achievement points to the old XBox games....or atleast do a 360 port of USM.

2. Oh man, imagine if developers could choose to add achievement points to Xbox 1 games. That would be the f***ing best thing ever. I'd be happy doing Legendary all over again, or going to absolutely everywhere on Shenmue 2.

3. How about they add NFL 2K5 to this list. The best football videogame made to date.

4. I'm happy to see Splinter Cell Double Agent there, as it's a completely different game than the 360 version. I have no qualms picking that up as well and playing through it on a weekend, especially since it has "true" co-op online as opposed to "Human Spies versus Bot Mercs in multiplayer levels" on the 360 version, while still fun, having the more fleshed out mode on Xbox 1 is definitely a plus.

8. The used original xboxes are piling up now, everyone is going 360.

Besides...without achievements, the oldies just don't seem as fun.

9. There are few games I want on the list.
Oddworld games, Conker, Mechassaults and thats about it... Maybe Soul Cal but I can play that on my PS3 so Its cool with me if it stays off.

14. Did anyone try playing any of those allegedly new additions on a 360 to see if the BC engine was updated?

Posted at 1:15PM on Dec 13th 2006 by sracer

15. Well, its nice to see more backwards compatability updates. I am sure they will add more titles (as they said, which is one of the reasons they pulled this list off) and whatnot.

Also, I seriously doubt the orginal MechAssult will ever be supported for one reason, it was one of the games uses to modify the original Xbox via a software hack that was done with this game, the original Splinter Cell, and some 007 game and they obviously don't want them hacking the emulator that way. Unless they can somehow update these games to the patched versions before running, these games will stay off the list.

Also, I am still surprised they got this far using a software emulator. As said many times before, this isn't like trying to emulate a N64 on a modern PC, this is emulating the strongest console of the last generation. Infact, I heard the emulator uses all three cores.

But personally, I think Microsoft should give developers some of the emulator code so they can try wrapping the emulator source code around the source code of their games. Because that's the big issue here, Microsoft is doing all the work of making the emulator work with all these games, and obviously, they don't have that source code to adapt the emulator to (though I don't see why they couldn't get the source code for Conker to make it work but even with the code, sometimes the emulator has issues emulating how the game used the hardware). They have to run it and watch it crash or not run right, and then make modifications to the code and repeat this several hundred times before it works 100% or near 100%. But personally, I think it would be better for Microsoft to add a feature to make incompatible games attempt to run, but warn you that the game is incompatible or untested and make you choose if you want to run it or not. That way, even if a game don't work properly, they can at least attempt to run it.

But as the PS3 shows, using hardware isn't a immediate "cure-all" to compatibility but its far better than a emulator. Sony had the advantage that the PS2 hardware was all manufactured in-house using their own architectures, so naturally they have no issues using their hardware. Microsoft however could NOT get licences to remanufacture the CPU and GPU for the Xbox but did get a licence to emulate it, thus why we have the backwards-compatibility emulator we have now. But unless Sony keeps the IBM PowerPC, NVidia hardware setup, their going to have to go though the same ordeal as Microsoft with the PlayStation 4...

16. still no love for jsrf/panzer? bah. It pains me to see talking animal movie tie in games on that list when these two are still not on there :(

17. Amen, ALH. If JSRF and PDO were on the list I'd be jumping for joy.

But still, Fahrenheit! :D

18. Skipping straight to Ultimate Spider-Man? No Spider-Man 2? Wahhh!

19. This is awesome if true because I want to play psychonauts but I want to play it on my 360 not my ps2

Posted at 12:13AM on Dec 14th 2006 by rubxcube

20. So what they're saying here is that the patch appeared but is gone again?

That may explain why I put Ultimate Spider Man in my 360 and download the update only to get an error message saying it was not playable.
I have Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) at home as well, and Shenmue II so I'll give those a try later before I call the patch totally broken.
