Those of you hoping that Star Trek: Legacy will add a bold, new chapter in the Star Trek universe may be disappointed. In a recent forum post, one of Legacy's writers, Derek Chester, warns players that many story elements have been cut from the game. Chester reveals that many intended elements never made it into the game, including rendered cinematics and a great deal of the story that tied the different eras together. In fact, it seems that enough of the story has been cut that Chester will be opening a thread specifically to answer questions about the missing pieces (he even mentions the possibility of novelizing it).
We haven't played the game, so we don't know if the overall story is actually broken or if the cut material deals with minutia that only a Trek fan would care about. Still, you'd think a Star Trek game would be all about fan service to begin with. After all, it's not like Legacy is going to sell a million copies to the Madden crowd*.
*No offense to the Madden loving Trekkies out there.
[Thanks, Scott "Bamelin" Strickland]
A brief shift in the time space continuum caused this story to be published yesterday. We have since repaired the rift and brought it back to the present.

It's a shame they cut so much of the story. The story is a big reason why really hardcore would buy the game in the first place.
So far it's appearing the game has been optimized for the 360, and was sloppily ported to the PC.
It will be interesting to compare PC versus 360 reviews.

I was already not sure if I was going to pick this game up, but now I'm definately going to wait. The last thing I need is another horrible Star Trek game in my collection.

This sounds like a game that will get unwrapped tried and returned within a day, may be two. It is sad that a company like Bethesda would ruin this when they have Oblivion. It boggles the mind.

THe pc version is absolute crap. Check out the bethesda forum, tons of people have already taken it back to the store for an exchange. sloppy sloppy work by Mad Doc, i wasn't able to play it more than 5 mins before it crashing. I hope the 360 version at least doesn't have major bugs

There's no profit in making good stories. Arcade button mashing still keeps people happy.

I played the PC version. It's horrible.
It looks like they substituted artist's sketches where the pre-rendered cinematics were supposed to have been. The graphics look like something from 4 years ago. The controls are awful and the gameplay consists of pressing the fire button repeatedly. I thought Bridge Commander was bad but it's a classic compared to this game.
I was hoping it would be slightly better on the 360 but now, it just looks like they didn't care about either version of the game at all.

I'm still positive about this game. It sounds like only frosting got cut out of the game. I don't care how revelatory the story line is to trekies. I just want an excellent stratigic space battle game. Bethesda has a great record.
And when deadlines loom you have to cut out what can go. The extra story fillers obviously could go. I'm still ready to 'charge phazers.'

This is one of the worst games I have ever played. I love Star Trek and always will but this game is insulting to anyone that plays it. I have the 360 version and the controls are pitiful. The missions are impossible, and space looks like a giant coloring book. Star Trek Bridge Commander has this game beat 100 times over. Avoid this piece of crap with all cost! I want my $8 bucks back from renting this crud!

It's sad, but it makes sense. I just read a story yesterday in Games For Windows about how stories in videogames are set on the backburner while more "important" parts of the game take priority. I have to commend Derek Chester for taking steps to fully flesh out the story for fans, even if it is a small and futile step.
