Save money, smack some sense into your 360
This one goes out to all those people who don't want to shell out $130 (plus shipping) to fix their 360 after receiving the dreaded Red Ring of Death®. This guy has a modified -- and not working -- 360. He turns it on and, sure enough, receives the red lights. What can he do? Call up tech support and try to bargain that $130 dollars down to an oh-so-attractive $115? Give up altogether? No, as the resourceful gamer knows only too well, if all else fails, smack it! Just beat the crap out of any malfunctioning piece of electronics, and there is a 50/50 chance it will be right as rain. So, before you send in that junked 360 for expensive repairs, be sure to give it a good beating first.

I've never resorted to doing that to my 360, yet, but it works with everything else (my pc, my mobile phone, my wireless headphones, my tv ...
2 hours later ... and my stereo)

Call me a skeptic, but thatvideo looks fake. It looks like they had the AV cord loose so the four lights would flash, but they had the fourth light covered with something to make it look like three lites. Then when he turns the power off it looks like he uncovers the fourth light. After he beats on the xbox it looks like he is plugging the AV cord up correctly (he clearly has his hand behind the the xbox)Also it is very dark in the video, why would anyone shoot a video in the dark?

I've been working with computers for about 10 years and I've seen many people do this before with even PCI component cards to get them to work (even hard drives to get some life back into them, at least long enough to backup data). So I am not surprised that works.
Supposively it fixes lose transistors or components on boards when you do that. How, I don't know, but as long as it works and saves you the hassle and money of buying a new one...

The funny thing is, the guy smacking the 360 has obviously nerded out and gone through the trouble and expense of modding the case, only to see the the red lights... kinda like pimping out your car and having someone nick the engine soon after.

I was in the Navy 5 years ago, just got out a year ago, and my training was in electronics. The first step to every and any problem is hitting it a few times. After that, if it still doesn't work, then you proceed to opening it up and fixing it.

LOL, that's great. I wish I knew what he was saying. Sounded like he was mocking his box like it had tried to skip out on its chores.

Well I have modded my case and I know the reason you get those red lights when modding is if you don't put the DVD eject switch back on right, I think he just whacked it and the eject switch moved a little.

- Ok. It's recording, basically an xbox with 3 red light, let's try to fix it some other way.
- If it works...
- You can bring it over here and we will fix it immediately, buddy!!!
When you get 3 red lights in Brazil (the video is in portuguese) there is simply nothing you can do. Shipping to the USA is just WAY too expensive and risking it to be taxed on the way back is simply prohibitive. That's the price of smuggling, you simply have to hope it never brakes.
