Verizon is sponsoring a full week of free Xbox Live Gold May 8-14, which just so happens coincide with E3. Wait a second—I thought Adidas was sponsoring the same week as part of their "Football Free For All?" Maybe that was meant for the UK. No matter. Free is free.

So whats up with these free gold weeks/weekends/whatever? Does that mean that for all the suckers who actually paid for gold (uh hem, me) get a extra week or that really we get a week less than we paid for?

Oh, good God,
It's a week! You want Microsoft to send you a buck? Does HBO send you a check when they do a promotional weekend?

Sense,
If it was like a once a year deal like HBO's free weekend... I'm totally cool with it. But these free weekends/weeks are seeming to happen fairly often lately, no? So let me ask you this... at what point does it start to tick you off? 1 free week? 2 free weeks, a free month? At somepoint you'll begin to ask yourself this question...

Maybe so, maybe so.
I get the feeling that Microsoft will slow down the free weeks/weekends pretty soon. Right now I think their promoting the hell out of LIVE to gain a foothold before Christmas.
Either that or Xbox LIVE will be subsidized entirely by ads.
