Petition against XBLM prices

Another day, another online petition yelling into the internet void. This one is complaining about the "ridiculous prices" on Xbox Live Marketplace, and seems inspired primarily by the Oblivion horse armor currently fetching almost as much as a Starbucks Latte. It has 13 signatures so far.

[Thanks Corey]

Oh i'm actualy on a better petition, it works like this - I have not nore will I ever buy any XBLM points... End of price problems no signatures needed...

Paying money for icons and wallpaper is just stupid to me because stuff like that should be free...

I just can't wait for them to open up the Marketplace so i can sell people thin air, and some wallpapers that my little brother made that say" u gotta love the Marketplace, the XBLM is our friend not some greedy corporation, or at least that's what people keep telling me "

It seems to me that if you do not like the pices on the Xbox Live Marketplace then do not buy anything. Overall the prices on the Marketplace when compared to their PC counterpart are half as much. And the price of the horse armor on Oblivion are the same price as the PC mod. I don't see why there is such a huge overreatction to theis content. MS told us that this was coming since last E3.

How cheap are you people? You are acting like the castapo is twisting your arm to buy the things on LIVE. look if you don't want the stuff then don't hit the download button. C'mon three signiture's will be all that you they get. If you read many of the blog pages out there most a VERY possitive about LIVE and the market place. True the Horse Armor was a 100 points higher that I would like but if you did not want it you did not have to buy it!!

I hear ya Broomstick! I think all you cheap f**ks should just not by anything if 2.50 is just so much money for you to pay. I swear! People are just never satisfied! A petition? Come on! Is it really that serious?

No need to petition. You either ...

A) Buy

or

B) Don't Buy

The more people don't buy, the more the prices will drop. The more they do buy, the more they will stay the same or go up. This is easy guys. If it is worth it then people will buy it, if not, then they wont. A petition is just whiny.

It's not the money so much as it's what this trend represents. Anyone that truly knows the value of work to earn money understands that the price to value ratio of this content is ridiculous.

How many times a week are we all advertised products that are "only $9.95 a month", or whatever the number may be. You do that too many times, and it's not such a small amount anymore. People who have mortgages or rent, along with many other weekly, monthly, and yearly expenses, start to understand that small amounts of money start to add up very quickly.

Sure, $2.50 for horse armor, or $2 for a theme is chump change. But, do that a hundred times over a year or more, and you've got a lot of money.

I'm not saying that these companies don't have the right to charge for content. They absolutely do. I have no problem with that. But the future looks very bleak for us gamers if these microtransactions become the norm and $1-2 becomes the low end of the deal.

In closing, I used to think MS was on to something great with the Marketplace structure. I talked several friends into picking up the 360, with a big part of the selling point being Marketplace's potential. Shame on me for being naive enough to believe in the corporate BS that J Allard and others spewed.

Never thought I'd say this, but bring on the PS3 for some competition on pricing.

I think they really messed up with market place. It would have been so much better if you gamerscore could be spent for this stuff, that way its like an unlockable. Besides the Horse armor thing was supposed to be in the game, they just didnt finish and now they're charging for it.

Yep. No petition needed. The people speak with their wallets.

MS hasn't betrayed anyone. They offer a marketplace for companies to sell stuff (with MS getting a nice cut I'm sure). Companies sell stuff, and you choose to buy it or not buy it.

There is no inherent evil or good in any of it.

The horse armor has a minute affect on the game play. Overall, the item is largely cosmetic. No different than buying an outfit for your character.

When the companies start charging for items that directly impact game play (lets say a high level sword or terrific armor) then things will get dicey.

All this drama about Xbox Live Marketplace pricing will be totally forgotten in a few months once they realize that having extra content for games at a small fee is better than having no extra content at all. Once Sony and Nintendo release their new consoles and online services, the prices of XBLM content will not be an issue anymore.

Eventually, the people who whine about this stuff will simply accept it. Just the people who complained that Xbox Live had a yearly fee and vowed never to pay to play games online.

how about a useful petition.. something like "Don't force us to buy points we don't want" or somethin.. I don't mind paying the $2.50 for the 200 points.. but I don't want to have to pay $6.25 for the 500 points if all I want is the 200 points. I just want to buy the specific things.. I don't like having to buy more than I want. oh well.

I love the people on here who say "Just don't download it if you don't want it" or "It's only 2 dollars". Its's not the point of how much it costs it the damn principal of it.It's about along the same lines of saying "If you don't like the new games that come out then don't buy them". Why? So I should just sit there and miss out on something I love like gaming because 1 in every 200 games is actually worthwhile because nobody says anything about the shit games? No,it doesnt work like that. WE HAVE A RIGHT TO BITCH. If you lived in a shitty state of slavery would you just sit there and not saying anything? Hell NO! You are the consumer and gaming is YOUR hobby and passion so you can STAND UP AND BITCH when people are taking it to a different direction that you (and alot of others) don't like. YOU are the one who buys the products. If you don't like Madden and other crappy games being churned out every single day then START BITCHING,it's your right to as a gamer who pays keeps these companies in business in buying their product. This is essentially your hobby and market with you being the consumer so if you don't like the direction it's going in then you voice what you feel.

Enough of this "If you don't like it don't buy it". No,it doesnt work like that, because you know why,the companies will see nobody is complaining and continue to churn out shit games and get you for highway robbery with shit like this. I don't like having to pay for these goofy things like extra cars and wallpaper. How about this one,I already bought the system for $400,a $59.99 game and subscription to Xbox live, now it's YOUR TURN to give me something as a loyal customer by giving me this bonus content free as a "here's a little extra for buying our games and system",not take take and take some more. They try to nickle and dime us to death. Here Microsoft,i'll just open up my wallet and give you everything in it. No,just take it all,it's basically what you want in the end so why not just cut out the foreplay.

It's a friggin wallpaper,i'm sure you didnt spend 3 months working 14 hour shifts to come up with a f'ing Dashboard theme.I think that if you buy a game like say...Ghost Recon that on that game disc there will be the Ghost Recon themes and gamerpictures for you to copy to the harddrive because you bought the game to start with. There's a line that has to be drawn with these companies and now finally people are speaking out about it. I commend you guys who are actually putting your foot down and not being the mindless gamers who just accept everything the way it is. You don't like what these companies are doing? YOU TELL THEM ABOUT IT,let your voice be heard and maybe they'll stop trying to take us for all they can. I'm not even going to get started on the $59.99 pricetag these games carry.

One more closing thing. I re-read some of the posts about the "purely cosmetic". Well, how about this one. Next time you bring home your new game you only get one weapon and character costume. There will be more weapons in the game with different stats and such but it looks like a plain sword on your screen. Then you have to go into the marketplace to buy new "skins" to make your weapons look like actual things. I mean,it doesnt directly effect the game it's just as you say "purely cosmetic". So I guess there's no bitching involved then right?

Or how about the next fighting game you have like DOA or Soul Calibur you don't actually get the costumes by earning them from playing the game you just open up your wallet and spend even more for them. Better yet,I can't wait for the wrestling games with the build a wrestler mode. I mean,i'm hoping that ALL the stuff in the game to create your wrestler has to be paid for one item at a time in the marketplace. Want a tshirt for your wrestler? 2 dollars please. Oh,you want to change his shoes later down the road? Oh well i'm sorry, that's another 2 dollars. No more money left? Well, sucks to be you, thanks for buying our $59.99 game!

I mean,it's purely cosmetic right?
