Xbox.com's Elle has written an article explaining Media Center integration, how the 360 works as a Media Center "extender", and some tips for getting it to work.
It's pretty rudimentary for all the A/V nerds, but it seems to be a good repository of info, and a good starting point for any of you who keep wondering what all this WMC business is all about.
I'll be over here, waiting for someone far smarter than I to figure out how to get this functionality working on a Mac...

And for those of you like me that don't have MCE, the "Windows Media Connect" feature ( http://www.xbox.com/en-US/pcsetup/default.htm ) is really nice. With my 360 already cruising on the wireless, it took about 30 seconds to get it playing music from my XP Pro pc with this app. Very slick.

I can't get my Windows Media Connect to work with my 360. It can see the Xbox 360 on the network, but the Xbox can't seem to find my computer. If you have any suggestions then I don't want to hear them, I've already given up after trying a million things.

I haven't tried this product YET, but it appears to give the Mac functionality you crave:

Forgot to mention-Looks like that "Connect360" software is free to try and a whoppin' $15 to buy. I think we'll give it a go.

I think Microsoft need to found a way to get people on the Xbox 360 Media Center with out having a Media Center PC because it is not right that other that have windows XP PC can't us it. I am also a person that don't have a Windows Media Center PC so what about the people that don't have the Media Center PC is Microsoft just going to forget use

I just built a windows media center pc a week ago. Works great and interfaces over WI-Fi with the 360 flawlessly. Even streams video just great over the wi-fi.
MAJOR downside however. You can only play MPEGS...
I guess Microsoft thinks this is beneficial to them somehow. However, instead it is going to make me not use windows media center and instead take my old computer and just hook it up to my TV via a digital cable. Since then I can use media player to play ANY kind of dang video type I want to.
Lame decisions like this one that limit the consumer's ability to do what they want with the product are going to seriously limit it's take rate.
GG Microsoft.

I need video services, not just the Windows Connect functionality.
And Alan, try Transcode 360:
