Update: Even more beta footage, including executions and the "death crawl" can be found after the jump!

Looking for even more Gears of War 2 news today? Leaked footage of the Gears of War 2 beta has leaked on YouTube that showcases new environments and weaponry. Earlier in the day we posted new renders and concept art for the anticipated sequel but other details have been scarce. If you're a fan of all things Gears of War 2 you need to watch this footage courtesy of Analog Hype. You know, until they take it down!

ESRB trying to curtail early game reveals

Posted Jun 20th 2008 1:00AM by Terrence Stasse

It's the end of an era. For a long time now the Entertainment Software Ratings Board has been a great source for spotting games that had not yet been announced. This was entirely due to the open system that was used by the ERSB's site, which allowed anyone to check a game's rating as soon as it had received one. While this was in keeping with the purpose of the ESRB (to have an easy to access resource for those who needed it; parents mostly), it was not in keeping with the goals of game publishers.

In response to requests from publishers, who were likely getting rather miffed at having their game's revealed outside of their plans for such, the ESRB is now offering the ability for games to appear on their site at specified dates. Now, when a publisher submits a game for rating they can fill in a box for the date it will see upload to the main ESRB page. While it was noted that "the ESRB system will not work for consumers if publishers arbitrarily select dates bearing no reasonable relationship to consumer interest in the product," we doubt if there is going to any publisher who doesn't take advantage of the new system and hold back ratings till the latest date possible.

Oh well. Thankfully, we still have other countries ratings boards to leak our video game info for us.

Grand Theft Auto IV leaked online

Posted Apr 23rd 2008 10:00AM by Xav de Matos
Filed under: News

At approximately 1:45AM EST the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV was leaked onto the internet. According to our X3F tipsters, who better plan on actually buying the game, thousands of users are leeching the 6.36 GB potential game of the year candidate. The release is a rip of the PAL version, specifically from the Asian market, and comes a mere six days before retailers place the game on store shelves.

We don't want to get on our soapbox here but we hope our readers would shy away from downloading a full version of the game, especially considering the team at Rockstar North have garnered near-perfect review scores for the release. Why? Well, it's illegal kids ... actually come to think of it, this leak is deliciously ironic. Isn't it?

Video: Halo 3 blue orb and third person view

Posted May 6th 2007 2:00PM by Dustin Burg

More Halo 3 beta leakage rolls in today detailing what the mysterious blue orb is and how (what we think is) the portable turret dispenses evil. From what we can tell in this overly shaky video is that the blue orb is simply active camo. When touched, you can see the "picked up active camo" text on the left side of the screen. Simple explanation yes, but it has been something that has bothered us since we saw the mysterious blue orb in the Last Resort video. Also showcased in the video is what we think is the transportable turret being fired while being ... moved. We say this only because the camera view is pulled back into a third person view when shooting, which we've only seen happen when picking up the movable turret. Whatever the weapon is, it fires some small grenade type projectiles similar to a brute shot. Third person Halo 3 view FTW!

So, make what you can from the video above and tell us what conclusions you've come to in your analysis. Hurry though, because we think the Bungie Ninjas work on Sundays.

[Thanks, Maxi]

Zunespotting

Gizmodo's got a pic of the Zune in its natural habitat (photographed in B&W to protect the identity of the leaker). Somehow I don't think the Apple fanboys are going to be impressed by the magnetic earphones.
