Call of Duty 3 is cheaper on Eastern front

Those crafty cats at Play-Asia are at it again, this time with a deal on Call of Duty 3. The region free Asian version of the game can be had for a mere $48 if you utilize the cheapest shipping option. This is a concept we've perhaps covered to death, but let's go over it again: many games are released in Asia with absolutely no localization at all. That means that oftentimes Asia gets the exact same English game that the US and UK get (usually, even the manual is still English). Asian versions are often region free, so they can be played on any 360 on the planet. To top it all off, they are often heavily discounted. So there you go, a perfectly good copy of COD3 for $12 less. While you're at it, why not pick up F.E.A.R. too (once it's restocked)? Anybody else found any amazing deals?

How to get Double Agent for $48

After doing the post about the Assassin's Creed collector's edition, we couldn't help but notice this little tidbit. It looks like Play-Asia is offering the region free version of Splinter Cell: Double Agent for a measly $44.90. Add $3.10 shipping and you've got your own copy for $48. That's $12 dollars of the retail price. Not bad at all. We've done a story or two on region free Xbox 360 games in the past. For the uninitiated, 360 games released in Asia are often region free. Not only that, but they are usually completely identical to their English counterparts, right down to the manual.

We haven't confirmed whether or not this is the case with Splinter Cell, but it's a fairly safe bet. Did anybody here get their copy from Play-Asia? For future reference, Play-Asia maintains a list of its region free 360 games. You might want to bookmark it if you enjoy saving money.

Assassin's Creed CE with 12" figurine

Collector's editions, seems like they're everywhere these days. Not one to miss the party, Ubisoft plans to offer a limited edition of Assassin's Creed. Not only that, but this particular collector's edition stomps others into the dust. Included in the box is a 12" painted figurine of everyone's favorite assassin, Altair. Now that's a collector's item.

We don't know if this set will make it to the US (or Europe for that matter), but Play-Asia is currently taking pre-orders for a region free version. That means it will work on any 360 on the planet. The box set itself is a reasonable $59.90, but the cheapest US shipping will run you $15.20. That puts this pretty package at $75.10, which is about what any other collector's edition would cost with tax. Assuming you've got the dough, your next problem will be figuring out where to put the Chief. See a larger picture of the figurine after the break.

FIFA World Cup faceplate for cheap

Good news for soccer fans and people who buy Christmas decorations on December 26: Play-Asia has the formerly $25 "official" FIFA World Cup 2006 faceplate for post-Cup price of $6.90 (plus $4 S&H).

Get Prey on the cheap

Joystiq reports the wonderful news that Prey is deliciously region free. That's right, any copy of Prey from anywhere will play in any old 360 you happen to have lying around. As an added bonus -- and this is the real reason for this post -- you can pick up the heavily discounted Asian version from Play-Asia for $40 US plus shipping.

See? Sometimes there are advantages to the 360's abysmal performance in the Asian market.

Moto GP for 43 bucks

Racing fans rejoice! Like GRAW, Blazing Angels, and Far Cry before it, Moto GP '06 has no region encoding. That means you can pick up a copy from Play-Asia for the delectable price of US $39.10 plus $3.90 shipping. A brand new 360 game for forty-three simoleons isn't bad at all. Those of you in doubt can check out X360F's previous proof of this amazing deal.

Anybody know of any other region free games out there?
