Those crafty cats at Play-Asia are at it again, this time with a deal on Call of Duty 3. The region free Asian version of the game can be had for a mere $48 if you utilize the cheapest shipping option. This is a concept we've perhaps covered to death, but let's go over it again: many games are released in Asia with absolutely no localization at all. That means that oftentimes Asia gets the exact same English game that the US and UK get (usually, even the manual is still English). Asian versions are often region free, so they can be played on any 360 on the planet. To top it all off, they are often heavily discounted. So there you go, a perfectly good copy of COD3 for $12 less. While you're at it, why not pick up F.E.A.R. too (once it's restocked)? Anybody else found any amazing deals?Past deals from Play-Asia

Are these playable on Xbox Live? In the future, if Microsoft gets wise, will they start checking for Region Free Discs on US 360s and disallowing them? Not worth the chance for me. I'd rather pay the full price, or just wait till a price drop and get our region's version.

It makes total sense for UK gamers. $48 is just a little over £25, and you'd be hard pressed to get many secondhand launch titles for that kind of cash.
I'd also like the Xbox live question answering. I guess they do right, if they're essentially the same code? I did get Gun from the far East off ebay, but I never even tried to play it online.

CoD3 is 60 at Circuit City, but you get a 10 dollar gift card back, so if you are planning on getting another game in the near future, that might be worth it instead. I know I will be getting this today, and Viva Pinata when that hits, so that makes both games for $100. Not a great deal, but not a bad deal either.

I would think they would work on Live considering the people in Asia need to get online too, right?
And are we sure the game has English in it, or English subtitles? The post said "many games are released in Asia with absolutely no localization at all," not all games. I've basically never bought from them before and just want to make sure I'm not going to hear anything wacky out of the US soldiers' mouths.

Yup, same for The Netherlands (Europe). With street prices between 60 - 70 euro (that's between 75 and 90 USD!!!) it makes perfect sense to order these for e mere 48 bucks inc. shipping.
Btw, I got there before Joystiq posted this, as we speak both F.E.A.R. and COD3 are begin shipped.
The only downside is that it takes around 12 days for the games to here... But then again FEAR and COD3 won't be released here for another 2 weeks. So I still get them before they're in stores!

If I knew for sure that these games were the same as the ones I can get here in North America I would totally do this. Xbox Live compatibility is a huge deal for me though and if there is any chance that these might not work online I would rather pay full price.

Don't worry about the Live functionality on these games. I have the Asian DOA4 and GRAW and they work fine in Live.

Keep in mind the actual box art and disc is not the exact same as the North American NTSC version. So if you're concerned about resale value or coming off like a cheap ass if someone in the know looks over your 360 collection don't bother with the NTSC-J versions from Play-Asia.

I've bought a few titles from Play Asia and I have to say that I'm generally impressed. As a UK gamer I save a ton of cash and the games arrive within five working days.
The only niggle I had was the "European" version of Dead Rising came with a box and manual in German! The game itself is in English so no great shakes and as far as I can tell this is the ONLY game in there line-up that was like this.
