Eternity's Child jumps from XBLA to Wii

And the Xbox Live Arcade size limit rears its ugly head once more. Shacknews reports that would-be XBLA title Eternity's Child has been moved from Microsoft's downloadable game service to the Nintendo Wii. The news comes from an Art de Jeu interview with the game's creator Luc Bernard. The reason for moving the title to Wii, according to Bernard, is that the game's high resolution art would break the 150MB size limit for XBLA titles. We should note, however, that Eternity's Child was never officially confirmed for XBLA in the first place. Still, it wasn't that long ago that many complained the original 50MB size limit was too low -- even though such constraints can spark innovation in some cases -- and now we may be seeing the beginnings of similar complaints leveled at the new limit. With the Wii selling like hotcakes to casual gamers, it will be interesting to see if it winds up as the new home for overambitious (or poorly compressed) XBLA titles.

Eternity's Child unconfirmed, but possible

Yesterday, we reported on the development of Eternity's Child, a 2D side-scroller with a unique aesthetic. The games official website claims that the game is headed to Xbox Live Arcade "this year" and its creator, Luc Bernard, told GTR's Godfree that it was on its way to becoming official. We decided to hit up Worldwide Xbox Live Arcade Games Portfolio Manager, Ross Erickson, and get his response. Erickson told us that he "can't comment on that right now." Those familiar with PR speak will instantly focus on the last two words in that statement: "right now." Typically, false rumors are flatly denied, whereas "no comment" could go either way. We know that Ross likes good games, and we wouldn't be surprised if Eternity's Child hits the arcade so long as it passes muster.

Eternity's Child jumps from phones to XBLA?

Discovered as a hopeful Xbox Live Arcade title in October, Eternity's Child has made some progress in the last few months. Originally published as a game for mobile phones, Eternity's Child is a traditional 2D platformer with hand animated sprites. Furthermore, the game features an orchestral soundtrack and is billed as a "fairy tale for adults" by its creator, Luc Bernard. While Live Arcade head honcho, Ross Erickson, earlier denied the game's status as an Arcade title, Bernard now says that he is under NDA and working through the process of making it official. We've contacted Ross Erickson to see if Eternity's Child is confirmed, and we'll let you know as soon as we hear anything. In the meantime, check out the mobile version of the game (it's free) and some animated sprites as well.
