The
Age of Conan MMO has been in development at Funcom on PC and 360 for some time now, and the game is starting to come out of it's shell a bit. With a demo at GDC, and impressions and interviews going up left and right, now would be a good time to discuss the shortcomings of your game right? Of course. The Funcom Product Manager Jorgen Tharaldsen told MTV
Multiplayer that the game still has no release window for 360 and that the PC version will ship in May.
Multiplayer even hints that the console release will not be seen until next year, a sorry state of affairs if the PC version is set to ship in a little over three months. It's easy to see why the team hasn't made much progress considering they haven't even touched what they call their largest obstacle, the controller interface. Tharaldsen even goes so far as to say that PC gamers would be unable to use their 360 controllers in the PC version, because the game was so complicated. But, if MMO's are so hard to use controllers with why do people play WoW with gamepads?

The controls of MMOs are only complicated when the developers are lazy with the control interface. Same thing goes for programs that take up more space than they should, they are just coded poorly.

OK, this sucks. I fear this one will be lost to the ages.

The only people who have a right to complain about how a game will control with a gamepad are RTS developers. And somehow they have managed to get things working. I've lost all faith in this game if the developers are that acting like this. It's worse than listening to a 2nd grader explain why he couldn't turn in his homework.

No one is playing WoW well with controllers, that much is obvious.
I think the important thing to note is that Conan does not have combat that mimics games like WoW exactly. It's supposed to be far more of a realtime affair... So at least some attempt is being made there to do something "new". Which is kind of why I'm surprised they haven't found a way to use a console-style controller with it yet...

I know I want to play this game real bad. I am glad I made a PC which can play this game in all its beauty. I know I cant wait till next year to play it, hence the PC.
Their initial plan was to release both editions together but I think its obvious they took some short cuts when the time frames they set themselves werent going to be met.
I am glad that its out in May though(its going to be nice). I am glad they didnt back out on the sheer bloodiness of the game and also the nudity. Glad to play a mature MMORPG.

Can't you just plug a USB keyboard into the 360? Isn't that what people did when FFXI came out? So why is this even considered an issue at all?
