Sony claims PS3 success over the 360

Sony CEO Howard Stringer is happy go perky when it comes to talking about the future of the PS3. Oh how bright the future is. Talking with Reuters, Stringer says that the "PS3 has now gone past XBox on the Christmas market" and that it is "moving into its own". Comparable to the growth of a tween becoming a teenager or something like that. Stringer then happily proclaims that the "PS3 is out of the woods and beginning to hold its own" when it comes to its competition with the 360. And we just hope that he's talking about Japanese sales numbers, because if he's referencing to North American sales then we'll have to be the bearer of bad news and say that the woods is much deeper and scarier than he thinks. But we'll let Stringer live in his fantasy world for as long as he wants, because he is a CEO. We'll just keep mum and let the numbers speak.

I am growing less and less likely to buy a PS3 every day. I'm now hoping for Blu-Ray 2.0 to show up in a $300 dual-format player real soon, so I can but that and claim I have no room for another game system...

I've had an Xbox 360 since launch and love it to say the least. However, I picked up a PS3 this past weekend to balance things out. I already have an HDDVD player but figured I'd get a Blu-Ray player out of the PS3 and maybe a few PS3 exclusive titles. Been playing Uncharted:Drake's Fortune and it's pretty damm good, hopefully other PS3 exclusives will be just as good. When I'm not playing PS3 I just let it do Folding@Home and help cure diseases...

No one says you can't have both. Each has its advantages and disadvantages...I know now because I own both.

I'm right there with you. I LOVE my (se)Xbox360! But I picked up a PS3 (80GB) about two weeks ago and I'm loving Uncharted and MotorStorm. Nothing else really on the PS3 that I want to play. The multi-platform games will be bought for the 360, and since I don't have an HD-DVD player, I guess I'm on the Blu-Ray side of the format war.

It's nice to have all the now-gen systems, as the exclusives aren't exclusive, and the multi-platform games give me the choice of comparing features. GTA IV is the perfect example: If I love the game, I want more...which system is going to have more?

At this stage I just don't even care what does marginally better. As long as the 360 keeps getting decent games I can just remain oblivious to this sort of stuff because I find it just detracts from my enjoyment of the games themselves. Considering 360 games seem to sell pretty well on average, it doesn't seem like I have too much to worry about yet... there's little reason for any third party I care about to start ignoring the system.

Alright Fanboy, this is straight up bullshit news. How about you make sure you check your facts or even read the fucking article. They passed the 360 in EU sales. Your reporting abilities have been really shitty lately... and I'm a 360 fanboy.

Modeps,

The last chart I seen still showed the 360 with a larger install base in Europe over the PS3. Perhaps you could point me to a source that shows the PS3 with a larger base in Europe. I know the PS3 is getting creamed in the States, and likewise, the 360 is getting creamed in Japan.

@Knight

Maybe the 360 has a larger *install base* in Europe because it was released, oh, I dunno, a year and a half earlier? PS3 is beating 360 in sales in Europe and obviously in Japan. I think it's beating 360 worldwide now, too. Just saying...

My question was rhetorical in nature. The PS3 has a ways to go before it passes the 360 in ww install base.

And the old excuse of the 360 having a year long headstart over the PS3 no longer holds any water.

That little inconvenience didn't stop the Wii from blowing past the 360.
