[Update: It turns out that the auction was pulled when the seller realized he had purchased a demo unit of Rock Band, which includes all the instruments and a limited song list. He has relisted the item (at $326 as of this update) with the appropriate description. Thanks to our crafty readers for figuring this out.]
The original headline to this story was something more along the lines of "Guy gets Rock Band early, eBays it." As you may have guessed, and as Joystiq speculated beforehand, it seems the auction was shut down by the mighty gilded hands of eBay. Still, there's something worth reporting here. That, of course, is that this lucky soul managed to procure a copy of Rock Band nearly three weeks before release. The game was purchased from a Marina, California Best Buy, where it was nestled among copies of Guitar Hero III. Seizing opportunity, he bought it posthaste.
Ah, the poor schlub. Now he's stuck with the grim task of trying to sell it locally, or worse, actually playing it.

Maybe eBay doesn't take kindly to the auctioning of live animals.

Yeah that sucks for that guy. I wouldn't have bought it though, cuz you know ebay is gonna take it down, and I wouldn't want to be stuck with a $180 paper weight.

I'm buying the game only for my 360. I'll wait until February for the wireless version of the Fender guitar. Cords suck.

Why people pay more for a product they can own for less in a few short weeks is beyond me. THat's like paying 15k on a PS3. Dude.

It amuses me that they actually managed to sell it to the guy, and that they apparently sent out the demo unit in the final retail packaging, seeing as the code was in their system.

The drums and microphone will be corded no matter what. If cords bother you that much (which suggests you have an aversion to real guitars as well) maybe you shouldn't buy the game at all.

Why are people saying "fail," and he's and idiot for buying it or he "stole" it? He honestly procured a copy of the game, paid full retail, discovered it is a demo unit, and is including the receipt so that it can be exchanged for a genuine copy.
What's the big deal?
