Just released some twenty-four hours ago is four brand new Beautiful Katamari downloads for you to experience and enjoy. And with any game that releases purchasable DLC to the Marketplace the same week the retail game launches, we end up feeling a bit cheated and annoyed. Because logic only tells us that the content should have been put on the retail disc, but instead the publishers wanted to make extra cash via the Marketplace. Grrr to you greedy companies, grrr to you! Ayway, we digress. The four downloadable missions include "Milky Way Constellations", "The Weaver Girl", "Shopping Spree" and "High-calorie Katamari" with each one costing 200 Microsoft points. Enjoy your new Beautiful Katamari DLC ... even if it should have been included in the game.

This seems to go against the spirit of the game. Something about the whole thing tells me that someone got the smell of money along the way. If you look at the original katamari damacy game, it cost $20. It had a wonderful soundtrack and was super fun. The second one came in at the normal $40, it was still fun, and there is also some great music there. I have not listened or played this version of the game, but it seems as though it is a pretty obvious cash grab.
This is probably the game that will cause me to finally buy an x360. i know that is probably sad.

The content is NOT up! it is only for Japan/Asia who have had the game longer than the US/UK! Major Nelson made a typo I guess yesterday when he posted the Marketplace content because it wasn't up yesterday and the DLC isn't up as of now.

One thing the post here forgets to mention is that the content is currently in Japan and Asia only. Unless you're willing to put down MS points in that region, we don't have it here in the US marketplace, or UK for that matter. Also, does anyone know if this will be compatible with the US and UK versions or are they region locked? I know the free Bullet Witch content was region locked so this may be the case here as well.

To their defense, a game is finished way before it actually comes in stores. So they probably just started working on the DLC as they waited for it to be shipped, certified, licensed, etc. Also, games are expensive to make, and this is a nice excuse to get some more money.
Selling cheat codes and walktrough videos on the other hand...

It's worth noting, though, that:
a) The game disc is only $40 as opposed to the usual $60
b) It has a gamer score of 1250, at least 170 of which requires DLC. (There may be more in the secret achievements.)
Are the developers ripping us off? Maybe a little, but we're still getting more game for the money.

agreed, with above comment:
game disc is merely 50, instead of the usual 60. loads of achievements to boot.
/me shrugs.

I am offended that North America is not yet worthy of getting shafted by this DLC deal.

They've pulled the worst one yet. To have the audacity to actully put the extra 250 points in which requires the DLC, over a month BEFORE release. Lame! And the reason I have not purchased the game.

They're still following the rule that 1000 has to be from on-disc content. At least to the best of my knowledge.
But yeah, I picked it up tonight and noticed the mention of DLC but lack in Marketplace. Thought it peculiar.
And as was said, it's a $40 game disc, so if it's 4 items for 200 pts each, that's another $10, which is still $10 less than a normal retail game!

Cheeky, maybe, but if you don't want to pay for it - don't buy it! Simple as that!
But more importantly, when is this game being released in Europe? I want to play it!

For those in Europe... I don't see a EU release date on gamefaqs.com or n-europe.com. However eurogamer.net expects it to come sometime next year. Soz, lads, guess you're just plum outta luck.

for the record, the first was $20 the second was $29.99 and now it's 39.99 or buy it at fry's electronics and it's 34.95. so the thing that gets me is there really is no content to download. thats right i said there is no DLC. how can that be?
Well it's already on the disc, you pay to unlock content on the disc. Seems to be the newest scam going for the 360. publishers are now stooping to an all time low and putting content on the disc and then charging you to unlock it.

Not sure what all the fuss is about. The game is value priced for a new retail 360 title. I say value priced because in this new next generation, games are $60, not $50 as of yore. So take that the last PS2 Katamari was $30, this one is a value at $40. Why? It has 4 player online play. Did the PS2 version have online play? Uhm, no.
So, for $40 it's a great value. Now considering for an extra $10 you can get more missions, more achievements, more presents, and more cousins. So the game is now $50, still cheaper than standard next gen fare, still includes online play, and is still a good value.
Also consider, you do not need to buy the DLC. It's a choice... amazing I know. Choices are hard to make.
So there you have it, a better Katamari, yet people will still complain. Perhaps you'll all complain next that the official Katamari t-shirts are $25 a pop. Even though they are also completely worth it.
