BioShock has been the hotness ever since it released last month and we're packing the digits and numbers to prove it. During a 2K Games investor call, 2K chairman Strauss Zelnick confirmed that
BioShock has already sold 1.5 million copies worldwide, is on track to become one of the best selling games ever and that the XBLM
BioShock demo has set new download records for a nine day period. Impressive, no? Zelnick then went on to plant a seed of hope stating that the
BioShock franchise might adopt the
Grand Theft Auto business model of having a new game release every two years. Yup, it just might be possible that we'll be harvesting (or saving) little sisters every few years for the rest of our lives ... oh joy!
It's more than obvious 2K is pleased with what
Irrational 2K Boston has done with
BioShock and if sequels get churned out every few years we just hope the the quality and the storylines are equally amazing as the original. Congrats 2K Boston!

Halo is about as innovative as Doom 2 (ie. been there, done that, nothing to see here). Bioshock on the other hand is innovative in the sense of world immersion. When you play it, you care about some of the characters and want to finish the game to see the story unfold. The play mechanics, while they have been done before, are perfect in every regard. The way the NPCs interact with the environment and each other, which is a breath of fresh air for AI behaviour. Rapture is a living breathing world where every action you take has consequences. Halo would have been generic shooter # 124 if it wasn't the only FPS that worked well with a controller. Having never played Halo on the Xbox, only PC, I found it boring and generic in almost every way. It did not even compare to Half Life 1 IMO. Bioshock on the other hand has set the FPS bar very high for all new games.

I'm feeling Bioshock for GOTY... but then again we still have to play Halo 3, COD4, Assassin's Creed and Rock Band.
Wow, I feel sorry for those idiots that don't have a 360.

Without giving any spoilers, I just don't see how a true sequel is even possible. However, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE for a game set futher back along the timeline. New Year's Eve maybe... :)

If they can keep the quality up, I'll keep buying 'em. System Shock 2 was amazing, and Bioshock lived up to the legacy IMHO (though I was kind of annoyed at how Vita-Chambers dumbed it down). I'm really looking forward to more. I only have one thing to ask:
2K, would you kindly make another dozen of these games?
Heh.
