Wow. This could turn out to be great news. According to a
Variety article, Gore Verbinski (
Pirates of the Caribbean director) has been snagged to direct the movie adaptation of
Bioshock. Even better, John Logan, the screenwriter on
The Last Samurai,
The Aviator,
Gladiator and more, is going to be doing the screenplay. AND, the Take Two Chairman, Strauss Zelnick, has supposedly structured the deal in such a way that it
actually happens, unlike
other notable video games movies that have attempted to run the Hollywood gauntlet. With such a setup as this, we could be looking at the beginnings of the best video game movie ever made. Hmm ... we wonder what Uwe Boll thinks of this?

Verbinski is the perfect director. He knows how to make creepy movies (The Ring), adapt unusual licenses (Pirates of the Caribbean), and has a stunning visual eye (Mouse Hunt).

Strangely yesterday I finally cracked open Bioshock after months sitting on my games rack. Good game, but I kept thinking to myself that is was damned creepy, especially some of those audio diaries and that man who is strung up being electrocuted. It could either make one brilliant film, or a pile of "creepy" crap.

It'll all come down to the main character, you didn't exactly get to know who you was playing as so it'll be up to him to make the guy and as everyone who bought bioshock had there own idea of who they was playing as..it'll be hard to please everyone.

Gore Verbinski is a good choice, but i have found John Logan to be a bit boring, i didn't like Gladiator, Aviator or Last Samurai.

Then you my friend have a different taste in movies. Those are all top notch movies in my book and in other people's books as well.
As far as the lead character. They could center the movie on Ryan and the rise and fall of his underground utopia.

the whole rise and fall of Ryan is supposed or rumored to be Bioshock 2. so itll be a crazy story but id prefer they use that story for the second game and not the movie.

I have faith in Gore Verbinski I have a feeling he is going to make a remarkable movie and blow us all away. I do agree with Sadistic Ham that it will all come down the main character, I hope they make good choices with him. Did you hear they are making a movie out of City Of Ember too! The preview reminded me of Bio-Shock, in fact I thought that was the trailer. But The movie looks like it’s going to be awesome. The set designer for Titanic and Nightmare Before Christmas is doing the sets for the movie, and from what I can from the trailer it looks so creepy/awesome!
My name is Blair Landon and I am an official ambassador for City of Ember. I have access to first-look pics of the movie not seen in the trailer (located on MySpace), and i'd love you to take a peak at them! I could also really use your help in spreading the word about COE and get lots of buzz going!
Don't forget to check out the widget we have too. It's pretty interactive and shows you where all the other City of Ember fans are around the world!
Again, I hope I'm not over-stepping and bounds by posting on your blog.
Best,Blair Landon
