In an interview with Game Informer, Mortal Kombat maestro, Ed Boon, revealed that Mortal Kombat 8 will use the Unreal Engine 3. Boon realized that UE3 would be perfect for the next Mortal Kombat after playing Gears of War. "To me, when I saw Gears of War, I was like, 'Holy shit! That's the look that we've been talking about" (last we checked, the look you were talking about was people leaving behind 8 rib cages and 12 femurs when they explode). Beyond visual aesthetics, Boon states that his team will be throwing out all the recent iterations of MK and starting again from the ground up. Boon promises a new control scheme and play style. The changeable fighting stances, for instance, will not be returning. We're excited by the prospects of new Mortal Kombat. The last time Boon and company rebuilt Mortal Kombat, the series received a much needed kick in the pants. Here's hoping the newly redesigned version will become a similarly fresh experience. Don't get too excited though, the game isn't expected to ship until 2008.

Maybe its just me, but I dont see how it can be a new run of MK if its still a fighter and called MK8.
regardless of the style of play, if its still a fighting game. its still mortal combat.
the series has had several styles of play over the years, and I think they just about covered them all with the exception of ripping off DOA or Soul Calibur

It won't be called MK8. That's the in-development title only. I wouldn't even be surprised if it's simply called "Mortal Kombat," as it's well-known that Armageddon was "the end" for the characters and storylines that have been going since the first Mortal Kombat.

Ok, First thing is first, It's Mortal Kombat with a K not a C, and if you dont know that or think it's not a big deal then regardless U have no Buisness posting about the game.
Secondly, Armageddon was going, GOING to be the last MK and that was what Boon and the developers at Midway were preaching before the game came out. But somewhere in there Boon saw Gears Of War and was inspired to make another, and this choice was reflected in the Konquest mode of Armageddon as Taven's Victory was to either rob all fighters of thier powers or kill them all, but it did neither meaning they'll all still alive and ticking. I'd bet the new Mk will continue the story line and have a plethera of returning characters. Just like Boon said Armageddon was only comming out on the old gen systems, well tell me what it's doing on the Wii then? They went back on what they said ten fold and that kool with me, I want more MK! Soul Caliber is nice, DOA is boring, cheap and Tecmo has about spent that poor game engine they bought from Sega into brankruptcy. Virtua Fighter is the best with Tekken in a close second but no game is fun like MK nor do any of them manage to have an ounce of the humor that is found in the MK series. If U dont get the MK humor, I'd bet you dont get the humor in old Kung Fu flicks either, or Kung Pow for that matter..heh.
