If you think a 4 or 5 decibel reduction in Xbox 360 noise pollution is worth voiding your precious warranty, this relatively easy mod (which involves the installation of sound dampening material around the optical drive) might be music to your tender ear drums.

That drive spinning is the only thing I dislike about my 360, sometimes it really gets on my nerves.

Cool idea, but how's it work with the heat? I would think that Dynamat stuff kind of insulates the XBo... Thermos360?

Can people play games from the HDDVD drive?
If so, is it quieter than the built-in dvd drive?

No, you can't play games from, the HD DVD drive. I looked into it myself. It brings up a screen telling you to place the disk into the 360 instead of the HD DVD drive.
The HD DVD drive is actually pretty quiet.
I would actually rather have a noise dampening kit for the Wii, it sounds much louder, at least to me. When it's reading, I can hear it clear across my room, same during loads. My 360 isn't near as loud. But, I don't really mind the sounds. I'll get over them.

It would have been interesting if they had tested how much the noise was reduced just by adding the rubber grommets. Then test it with just the Dynamat. Would be nice to see what has the greatest effect.

Oh... So we have to admit that our 360 Drives are Loud Now?
OK... Do we still have to Lie and say that they are not when bashing Sony on the PS3Fanboy Site?
