C&C: Red Alert will be 360 console exclusive [update]

Update: For clarity's sake (she's a demanding girl), Eurogamer specifically says that EA has "halted work" on the PS3 version of Red Alert 3 and that development on it "has most definitely been paused." So, reeling back our fanboy speculation a touch, this means that the status of the project is still up in the air as EA hasn't officially canceled it. We cool now?

Interesting news out of the EA camp today as it was just announced that the Playstation 3 version of the upcoming Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 has been canceled halted with no reason given. Eurogamer is reporting that EA has stopped production on the PS3 version leaving its development at a question mark status and will focus their developing efforts on the Xbox 360 and PC versions. Also, it's good to know that the cancellation "on pause " status of Red Alert 3 for the PS3 will not affect the game's scheduled Fall release on other platforms. So, the only place to get your console RTS fun this Fall will be Red Alert 3 on the 360 ... or Halo Wars on the 360. That is if Ensemble can get it out the door sometime this year.

C&C3: Kane's Wrath - Command Stick Trailer

As real-time strategy games have their moment in the sun on the Xbox 360, the question of control always lingers. Can a controller simulate a mouse and keyboard properly to play an RTS?

The answer is no. It can't. That's why developers are rethinking the way RTS games handle on consoles and so far they've been pretty successful. Now the question is based on speed. Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath introduces a new scheme to the mix hoping to correct that problem with the new Command Stick. Promising to reduce the amount of clicking required to complete simple tasks like building your base and training new units, the Command Stick is expected to speed up the overall experience of the console RTS.

The video is embedded in low quality above, but for those purists who need to see it in HD jump over to Big Download and download the full trailer in its high-resolution hotness.

C&C3 Kane's Wrath: Details, Release Window

Commander and Conquer 3
has had downloadable content in the past, but this summer EA LA will release the first (and so far only) single-player expansion to the popular RTS. As previously reported, the expansion will include radial menus, as well as new units, upgrades, abilities and a new game mode, Global Domination. The new single-player content consists of 13 new missions that are then broken into three separate chapters, each telling a bit of a different story. The expansion will use a feature called Sub-Factions to tweak the army choices, offering more specific choices for those who want a specific army, as well as new abilities for the units in those armies. In addition the game now has a "Skirmish Mode" that is similar to the War Room from the earlier Advance Wars games. With all this new content that has a large effect on the core gameplay this single-player expansion really does seem to be worth it, however long we've waited.

Command & Conquer's Tiberium FPS announced

It's true! Command & Conquer is officially headed into the FPS tactical realm with today's announcement of Tiberium for the Xbox 360. And actually, all the rumors we've heard about Tiberium ended up being correct. It'll feature its own unique blend of FPS gameplay that mixes in some tactical combat strategy, a deep and engaging plot and weapons that are explosively fun. It'll be a lot like C&C, but in FPS form. Oh joy! Click the jump link to read the full press release and start pondering what Tiberium will be like on the 360. Just imagine ion cannon strikes. We're sure they'll boom really good in first person.

Rumor: C&C FPS "Tiberium" headed to 360

According to a recent post on VideoGamesBlogger, the next issue of Game Informer reveals a new FPS set in the Command & Conquer universe. Apparently titled Tiberium, the game takes place after the third Tiberium War and places gamers in control of a GDI field commander armed with a GD-10, a special weapon with four firing configurations. The game features squad tactics and is described as "Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter meets Battlefield meets Rainbow Six Vegas." Frankly the this description isn't particularly evocative of anything, other than to remind us at least that said games were good. Other details include the ability to control specialized squads and vehicles and also the inclusion of special powers like calling in an orbital strike (an obvious nod to the RTS roots of the series). Little else is known about the game right now, though we expect more will come to light when the next Game Informer hits the shelves.
