Hey guys,
I have a few questions and I'm sure you know the answers.
Will Super Street Fighter 2 HD be an XBLA game or a retail game?
Will co-op in Bionic Commando Rearmed be local or online?
Thanks,
Ben
Gamertag: ObiBen8
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be an Xbox Live Arcade game. Street Fighter 4, on the other hand, is a retail title. You can actually score access to the SSFIITHDR online beta if you pick up a copy of Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 for XBLA. As for Bionic Commando Rearmed, the co-op is ofline only. Yes, it sucks. According to Capcom's Ben Judd, who we interviewed a while ago, the co-op was added late in the game's development. The dev team at GRIN thought co-op would be fun, and it was, so they added it. Unfortunately, the engine was already complete and adding net code was out of the picture.
On a side note, we were also asked about just when Rearmed will actually release (you may recall it was recently delayed). Alas, our crystal ball is no good at forseeing how long the certification process will be. Certification delays can take weeks or even months (see: Worms). We're hoping it's sooner rather than later.
Hey X3F,
I've been having a lot of trouble finding the Halo 3 McFarlane toys. I saw a ton of them when they launched, and they sold really fast, but no stores in my area got any more shipments. Also, none of the area Walmarts got any to begin with, and they were supposed to have exclusive figures. I live in the Cleveland area btw. Thanks!
Sgt Barone
We actually ran into the same problem. Our guess is that the figures are manufactured in limited quantities. Given that many of the series one figures are going for well above their retail price on Amazon, we'd say it's a pretty good guess. With series 2 coming fast -- July 6 according to Amazon -- we have some advice if you'd like to score your very own. One, if you're looking for one of the store exclusive figures, check the store early and often. You could also ask if / when your store expects them (we're not sure why your Wal-Marts didn't get them at all, though). Two, shop online. You should be able to get all of the figures other than the exclusive ones with no trouble. Hell, you can order them right now.

D) There hasn't been talk of a 360 port of Spore for quite some time. We know that way back in 2006 Spore maestro Will Wright said that he saw the game as a franchise and hoped it would arrive "across all platforms" eventually. Wii and DS versions have specifically been more or less confirmed by Wright, though nothing has been said of other potential versions of the game. While there's nothing more official to go on just yet, we'd say there's a high probability that some form of Spore will hit the 360 eventually. Spore is an EA game after all, and if it has the same impact as Wright's last game -- called The Sims, perhaps you've heard of it -- you can bet EA will leverage it on every piece of electronics with buttons and a screen.
Whats Up X3F
Great website always check it after work,
I want to ask you a question that is rumored alot about will Metal Gear Solid 4 ever go on the Xbox 360 i heard a rumor it would after like 12 months but i also heard Konami saying that it was hard to fit in a blue ray disc. Can't They just make it on 2 discs instead of one i hope you answer my question.
James
Gamer Tag: XxOCxSPYDAxX
Punctuation, James, punctuation! Yes, Metal Gear Solid 4 on the 360 is a rumor that just won't quit.
Long answer
There are a few reasons why it won't.
- The game is currently the reason to own a PS3, a fact of which Sony (and Konami) is very aware. Sony won't be too keen on losing its golden child, and we imagine Konami wants to stay in Sony's good graces too.
- The game was designed for the PS3 from the ground up and takes up a ton of space, more than will fit on a standard DVD. Any kind of port would call for some compromises.
- Konami has denied every rumor that the game is headed to 360 and has constantly reaffirmed that the title is PS3 only.
Short answer
Maybe someday. Definitely not soon.
That's it for this week, folks. Keep sending your questions to: ask [at] xbox360fanboy [dawt] com.

If that's the impression you got, you should not have put "crap" in quotes. I made a simple, flameless post and your post tried to turn it into typical fanboy crap.
My post had nothing to do with the merits of porting MGS4 and everything to do with responding to people who said that 50gig foot print was an insurmountable obstacle.
The fact is, we have at least 2 examples of games developed for the PS3 being ported quite successfully to the 360. The previously exclusive Assassin's Creed and the more recent Burnout (developed first on the PS3 and ported to the 360). And at least the Burnout developers commented on the relative ease of porting from the PS3 to the 360.
If you want to argue that it's a mistake for Konami to do the port for other reasons.. that's fine. But that wasn't the crux of my post and nothing you've written lends any weight to your argument that doing the port would be difficult nor have you addressed the point that I brought up that the structure of the game... distinct and seperate levels and mandatory multiple installs between acts lends itself well to a multi-disc format.
If the game were structured in such a way that you needed to go back and forth between the various acts... then I would agree that a multi-disc format would be detrimental. But for the most part, the game is very linear and structured into distinct segments.

MGS4's cutscenes were done using the in-game engine, meaning they take up very little space in comparison.

I dont see MGS4 coming to 360.MGS has always been a niche title, the strong sales come from its large hardcore fanbase and not the more mainstream gamer base.Porting it to the 360 is gonna cost time and money, things will have to be cut out, conversations re done etc.
The game is pretty much made with the hardcore MGS fan in mind, and these are the people who have already bought the game.Like most reviews have said,MGS4 is unlikely to win over new players.
Sure even look at the case of the in game iPod.Do you think apple are gonna be happy to have one of their products appearing on their main rivals console?Honestly think theyr gonna go throw in a zune instead?
If MGS4 does end up on the 360,itl be getting the watered down gimped version.Mind you,a watered down gimped version would still be a fantastic game that puts most others to shame. But I just dont see this happening,as Kojima would hardly allow a watered down version of his baby to be sent out
Maybe the 360 can wait for the MGS4 Substandard add on though.....

Why would it be watered down? You actually believe that PS3 outperforms 360 or vise-versa? if you do then name a game on PS3 that does something another game on 360 can't do?
First of, I'm not here to say that it will come to 360. I'm here to say that if Sony would allow it, the game could be done, the expenses wouldn't be as great as you are insinuating and the game wouldn't be as bad.
Yes the game is on blu-ray and took up MAD space, but because of blu-ray's read speed a lot of data has to be doubled up on every game and not to mention that the game has several installs. The reason I mention those issues is because having multiple discs would probably play similarly since you have to stop and install. (ie.stop and switch disc).
You do realize that developing for 360 is MUCH easier and cheaper right? MS is a software company and as such have developed the best dev tools. I once read on Kotaku.com that Farcry devs had 2 guys working on the 360 port as opposed to 14 on the ps3 port.
So there you have it, yes the game is on blu-ray but DVD-9 implementation is possible and probably can be done on 3 discs. While it would cost Konami to port it, it would not cost them as much as it took to build (porting it would be a fraction of that price) and it would most definitively make 10 times MORE money then it took to build. So tell me what does Konami lose?
Ps: I don't know if you know but FYI, MGS4 uses 7.1 surround sound. It's common knowledge that sound files are the most space consuming files on games. Take 2 channels off and you got 5.1, compress it and you got yourself a MUCH smaller file.
I honestly think that the game could fit on 2 DVD-9 using 5.1 audio and then compressing it instead of using 7.1 Lossless (uncompressed), removing redundant data and compressing any other large files using MS superior compressing software.

Noshino and a few of you others...
You said that my "reasons were way off"
You do know what Konami is in business to do, right? --Make money. That would be the motivation for going multi-console.
So, a few of you are saying that MGS would be "too hard" and "too expensive" to port??? That's very silly. Porting costs are a very, very, small investment compared to the profits that are made by selling the game on two consoles. Even if MGS4 cost some outrageous amount to port (let's go VERY ridiculous and say they spent $10 million porting it). It's still going to sell another million copies on day one on Xbox 360, netting $60 million in sales. Even it if only sells 500,000 on day on on Xbox 360, that would still easily make a $20 million dollar profit. That's why EA makes all it's games multi-console...there's more development cost, but there's a LOT more money.
And don't give me that crap about it being "too hard" to port. Complex games get ported from console to console all the time. MGS4 is no different. (If GTA IV is on both consoles, MGS4 should be a cakewalk.)
And one of those "conversations" in the game that would have to be changed is a freaking cutscene pushing blu-ray (thereby bashing the 360). Not a big loss there. Maybe it distracted you from the install time.
If you think MGS4 can't be ported because of hardware or software porting difficulties, you're crazy. Porting costs, even with complex games, are very minimal compared to the amount of money to be made on multi-console releases. Unless Sony gives Konami a big payoff, MGS4 will probably be a timed exclusive.

There is also a motivation for staying exclusive...SELLING EXCLUSIVITY
"It's still going to sell another million copies on day one on Xbox 360, netting $60 million in sales."
What?...so since you can read the future, could you tell me next week lotto numbers?
"And don't give me that crap about it being "too hard" to port. Complex games get ported from console to console all the time. MGS4 is no different. (If GTA IV is on both consoles, MGS4 should be a cakewalk."
GTA4 and multiplatform EA games are developed FROM THE GROUND UP to be multiplatform, MGS4 was developed as an exclusive PS3 title, and it takes advantage of many features that are only present on the PS3
"And one of those "conversations" in the game that would have to be changed is a freaking cutscene pushing blu-ray (thereby bashing the 360). Not a big loss there. Maybe it distracted you from the install time."
Im going to just stop arguing because it is clear that you don't know much about this game, there is much more content that is PS3 related, hence why I said that it was more than just porting the code. Kid, you should really inform yourself more about what you want to argue about if you don't want your own statements to come back and bite you in the ass...

Noshiro, I don't really have an opinion on whether it will or will not come to 360. Frankly, not being interested in the game, I only have mild curiosity about the possibility. However, you keep mentioning how MGS4 was designed to use many of the features that only PS3 has, but you also continue to not state what these are.
What does MGS4 use on PS3 that couldn't be ported to 360? The only thing I'm aware of (although admittedly ignorant on this particular game) is the extra bluRay storage space. As noted before, this could easily be broken out to multiple discs.

ppl who've played MGS4 will know it refers to the other games a heck of a lot and uses images and audio clips from previous games as well.
Flash backs show MGS1 on the PSone and not the more graphically updated remake Twin Snakes from the Gamecube due to the fact that Twin Snakes is exclusive to GC. In turn MGS1 and MGS3 are exclusives to the PS2, so that stuff would have to be deleted if MGS4 was ever to go to another console.
Plus as someones mentioned conversations would have to be cut out or rerecorded too.

I like MGS, since the first but have since moved on. Snake eater was not as good as 2, and 2 not as good as 1, so I could imagine this would not be as good as Snake eater. Even if it is better than all of them, my desire to play has already hit rock bottom. Oh well. When does Gears 2 come out? Oh yeah, its coming up.

you guys are way off, mgs4 right now is selling VERY HOT right now,in Europe, Japan and North America, why would they wanna go exclusive? I know that would sell more, but honestly, No. And as for blu-ray, HAH, are u serious? Sony will make microsoft pay HEAVY amounts of money to move on to blu-ray.

A better question is are YOU ("u" in your language, I believe) serious? You should at least try to do a little research. The Blu-Ray format is not owned by Sony, and I don't see how the BDA would "make Microsoft pay" any more than any other company. :P

About the whole MGS on 360,
I read awhile back that Hideo Kojima said that MGS4 won't be on 360, but he said IN THE FUTURE, he plans to develop something FOR 360 sometime for 2010. Whether its another Metal gear-related project or something completly new is yet to be discovered.
