The news is out. The Playstation 3 managed to
best the Xbox 360 in sales during the month of May. Grab your favorite pillow and get ready for a shock, because EEDAR analyst Jesse Divinich expects last month's results to be the beginning of a new trend. On the sales victory, Divinich notes that the trend "will likely continue in June as we expect
Metal Gear Solid 4 [to] act as a bigger catalyst in terms of driving PS3 hardware sales than did
Grand Theft Auto IV." He adds further that exclusives on the Playstation 3 platform tend to drive console sales more than exclusives on the Xbox 360 (or the Wii).
With his PS3 prediction in tow, Divinich believes that Microsoft will respond by announcing a price cut for the Xbox 360 during next month's E3. Furthermore, Divinich believes Microsoft may also announce a new Xbox 360 model with new features (
Blu-Ray, perhaps?). Should the price cut take place, Divinich expects Sony to follow suit within two months of the announcement.

1) Make the 360 reach the mass market
2) Makde the 360 a mainstream form of entertainment and..
3) How can services, hardware, and content affect that?
#1= Price cut imminent
#2 & #3 = Make the system more approachable w/hardware (motion controller) & software ('casual' games). It's obvious what Microsoft's gameplan is but how they get there is what's interesting.

Exclusives drive console sales more of the ps3 than on the 360 because sony have enough sense to see the bigger picture and actually make sure that the only place you can play their first party/3rd party exclusives is on the ps3.
Microsoft however are always after to easier more instant trickles of money... they dont actually believe in exclusives. 90% of giller apps that would shift a console from microsoft will end up on the pc also. Third party exclusives are generally only secured enough to be timed.
I know countless pc gamers that have yet to invest in a console.. they love the look of mgs4 and gears of war 2 respectively. Yet they know theres no need to invest in a 360 for gow2...where as the only chance they can have to play mgs4 is on the ps3...this ofcourse makes the ps3 more of an attraction.
Exclusives shift consoles..with every other game being multiplatform, it'll be an exclusive that will make you choose between them. Mgs4 will always be an added plus for investing in a ps3.. be it now, or 2 years from now. Its doubtful we can say the same about halo3..or any other big 360 exclusive.
Microsoft obviously believe that theres still sales to be made with the pc market.. they wouldnt be releasing the games on there if they didnt. So it stands to reason that if those people that bought gears of war on the pc had the option removed then surely the game would be more a temptation to invest in their console. As microsoft make the big money in hardware and more hardware sales means more users which means more xbox live subscriptions.

As for the 3rd party games, we're still waiting to see PS3 offer much in that aren't we? I mean you have Haze...which...well...it was Haze.
With the exception of Halo, the same could be said about Xbox 360 1st party titles. Many are okay, or good, but few are GREAT.
Do they have a lot of cards yet to play in the PS3 camp, sure! They have at least Gods of War and Twisted Metal.
Unless Nintendo actually plans to release multiple Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Metroid, and SSBB games on the Wii, they might have already pushed out all the best 1st party stuff they have to offer this generation.
So does Microsoft have a reason to keep PC's in the game? Sure they do because of software sales (both the game itself AND the OS). Sony has less of a reason to worry about it, unless they can get the titles to only play on a VAIO PC.

But see I can enjoy those games on the 360 and not have to spend money once a year upgrading my computer to play the newest games.
Not to mention...I own an iMac...so well...you know.
