The news is out. The Playstation 3 managed to
best the Xbox 360 in sales during the month of May. Grab your favorite pillow and get ready for a shock, because EEDAR analyst Jesse Divinich expects last month's results to be the beginning of a new trend. On the sales victory, Divinich notes that the trend "will likely continue in June as we expect
Metal Gear Solid 4 [to] act as a bigger catalyst in terms of driving PS3 hardware sales than did
Grand Theft Auto IV." He adds further that exclusives on the Playstation 3 platform tend to drive console sales more than exclusives on the Xbox 360 (or the Wii).
With his PS3 prediction in tow, Divinich believes that Microsoft will respond by announcing a price cut for the Xbox 360 during next month's E3. Furthermore, Divinich believes Microsoft may also announce a new Xbox 360 model with new features (
Blu-Ray, perhaps?). Should the price cut take place, Divinich expects Sony to follow suit within two months of the announcement.

I hate to say this but I think the Blu-Ray is a much needed addition. I think it will be Blu-Ray and not some game that will continue to move PS3 units. Until the make that choice, they do need to drop the price (and finally kill the Arcade version). The units all need HDD's, and the add on HDD's need to be a lot cheaper. The Premium should be $229 or $249 tops.
I jumped to the dark side this week (via Wal-Mart deal) and purchased a PS3. I did so because of Blu-Ray. I download movies via XBLM but sometimes I like to own movies, and I made the decision to go with a PS3 for that very fact.
I know I looked at the game case at Wal-Mart looking for exclusive games. I think I counted 8. About the only thing I'll play on it are PS3 exclusives. Cheevos actually keep me playing the games, so does an easy and unified friends system. Two things a PS3 can't offer. I won't even get started on the pains of downloading demos and games from PSN...dear God it's terrible.

Actually you have me curious now.
Also, trials are not a standard with their PSN games, right?
I'm not trolling, just doing my PS3 research prior to a purchase.

They don't do trials on XBLA type games. Some do have videos of gameplay. That isn't straight across the board though as a couple do offer demos.
The demos of retail games and the like require a download (which seems way too slow). The thing that gets me about the downloads...the fact that after I download them I have to install them! What the hell else am I going to do with them? I dl'd Heavenly Sword the other day. Less than 1GB file. Took about 55 minutes to DL. Installation took an additional 30 minutes. Total gameplay time in demo, less than 7 minutes.
You can say it might be my internet connection, but what about the slow install times. This isn't some read speed issue with the Blu-Ray...this is digital download...and it's very slow.

The download speed for demos is really based on your broadband speed. There are times when games download faster on my PS3 than Xbox 360 and vice versa. There is still an install needed on PSN demos and there are trials for some but not all PSN-only games so Sony definitely has more work to do in order to catch up to Xbox Live.

There are demos of PSN games, but Sony does not put that as a requirement, the publishing or not of a PSN game demo is at the developer discretion

Heavenly Sword is known to be an extremely short demo, yet its extremely large in size, one reason is because there are multiple languages in it, ****.

Let's assume all of these rumors are true for a moment.
Regardless as to WHY they would happen, they are all great bits of news.

The way I see things Sony is sincerely trying to make a quality gaming console, while Microsoft is simply trying to make a quick buck. Compared to PS3 360 has inferior (though not by much) and unreliable hardware, along with a lack of features, also found it disappointing the 360 didn't utilize an HD-DVD drive for gaming. No built in wifi? If I bought a 360 I'd end up paying hundreds more dollars than the PS3 because of all the add ons and charged service for online gaming.
Original xbox had less games that interested me than I have fingers on one hand. But I have to admit Microsoft is doing much better this time 'round , sad thing is PS3 exclusives are actually exclusive while I see one top name 360 game after another being ported to PC or PS3. If all of 360's games are getting ported where's my incentive to buy one?
I don't mean to seem fanboyish if I it seems that way, my friend pisses me off when he says those same exact things I just did because he keeps repeating it over and over and keeps saying what shit 360 is.
I realize its all opinion and perspective and we all have that thing that floats our boats.

Would HD-DVD have had a better chance if the 360 had the drive on board? Perhaps.
Sure there are things the Microsoft hasn't done right. Sure, the hardware has had issues, but people still buy it. When people ask me what system they should look at buying I still suggest it. I also warn them about the hardware. I have no issue pointing a person toward a Wii, PS3, or in some cases just telling them they should just get a Nintendo DS.
I don't know what features you would like in your 360 that is given by the others. I can think of motion control, easy upgrade hdd, free online service (which I now have NO issue paying for after time with PSN), easier DRM standards (PSN offers install on 5 systems while Microsoft straight hates you). There are a couple but nothing major.
As for the WiFi, yes it should have been included. The price of the add on WiFi shouldn't be $99. It should be $39. Do the Wii and PS3 offer WiFi built in, yes...do I prefer to use them over wired...no. It is nice to have the option. My WiFi adapter is plugged into my 360 so I can easily access my Mac's HDD where my movies are stored. Microsoft did pull an old Sony move with their WiFi add on, memory cards, and hard drives.
These are issues with accessories or hardware, but as for the software and sevice side of the 360, I think they still do a far better job than the other two. But that is also, just my opinion. I do thank you for not going all Fanboy on it. I give you major credit for bringing a real conversation to the table.

Could Sony really counter with another price drop if MS did? MS makes money on each console, I don't think Sony is there yet. Of course they would pretty much have to, so it really doesn't matter.
I would love to see the premium at $249, but I think $299 is more likely, that would put it at $100 less than the cheapest PS3.

A price drop would be nice for the 360 (this includes accessories as well). MGS is not a system mover, fans will by it, it will not increase sales that much.

Don't see what the big deal is. You can only sell so many 360's, so it's inevitable that the PS3 would catch up. If someone made a choice to buy a 360 instead of a PS3 that's going to put 360's numbers up, now that same person is ready to get his or herself a PS3. So now that everyone has a 360 the PS3 is bound to gain some ground. Plus MGS4, that's gonna move consoles!

So why does the Wii continues to dominate both 360 and PS3? Sure you might say that the price is an factor, but then the Wii is still in great demand and is hard to find.
I can't wait to see what MS has in store for the 360 at E3. And isn't the 360 coming out a new sku with a brand new chip (Jasper) ?

The Wii is an issue of price and of demographic. How many 50 & 60 year olds do you know that buy an Xbox 360 or PS3 so they can play games when friends come over?
I can't think of any. But I know of at least two dozen people with children my age (30) who have a Wii so they can play the 'bowling game' when they have friends over. And I LOVE that because people see games are for all ages. But lets face it, those very people spent $250 for something to only play that ONE game. Many will never buy anothr title.

Its time MS started working on the next generation Xbox...2-3 years for the Xbox 720 to get thing dead right - why not begin the process now to shut sony up.
A couple of rumours on the net and a viral marketing strategy perhaps?
Were nearly 3 years into this cycle and, lets be honest, alot of games (but not all!) are starting to play rather ordinary and look somewhat dated.
Come on MS lets have a glimpse of the future.
