Charles Huseman over at Gaming Nexus attended GamerscoreBlog's Road Tour event in Chicago, and got some hands-on time with the
Chatpad, although not the retail version that'll hit shelves this summer. Charles said the Chatpad doesn't get in the way at all or messes up the weight balance of the controller. He also noted that the buttons are backlit for those who may be texting in the dark, with minimal impact on the wireless controller's battery life. Still no word on pricing or when we'll be getting it this summer.
The special headset packed with the Chatpad has yet to be seen. Either way, exactly
1/3 of X3F staff (We bet you can't guess
who) is
all about the IMing whilst gaming, to the point of having a USB keyboard handy to make use of the overlay window for quick conversations. Have any of you slowly warmed up to the idea of IMing while you game? Or would an accessory like this be necessary for you to make the jump?

Just tell me one thing...will it come in black for my newly purchased Elite? Seriously, I want this but never use my premiums' controllers. I guess in the end the color doesn't really matter.

Before the update you could hear me saying, " thats the stupidest thing ever....", and here I am chatting away while in a Gears of War fire fight.

Right! I do text a ton, more than I use voice messaging.

I use a bluetooth wireless keyboard on my xbox360. Much better and faster than some dinky keypad attached to the controller. Bet my Thumbs are too big for the buttons anyway :)

How do you get the Overlaid text box? I got it once, and it promptly dissappeared not too long after bringing it up.
I too, use a USB Keyboard.

This would go great with a Xbox 360 web browser...

While I wouldn't complain if they gave us a web browser I don't understand the big deal about them. I wan't a gaming console, otherwise I would have upgraded my 7 year old PC a long time ago. Guess it's just me.

I honestly didn't think it was that big of a deal in the first place. But now seeing how much I use the feature on the Wii, I don't see how it would hurt. Plus it gives one more reason to own yet another accessory.

Yeah, I'm sure if they ever gave us one I would use it like crazy. Only time will tell.

I'll definitely be buying one. using a keyboard with your xbox is inconvenient to say the least. i just hope it comes out within the next month.

you simply push the windows and M key at the same time. and to change conversations without going into your chat menu just use..windows and directional arrow to switch. the IM feature is great if you use IM and have it linked to your gamertag.

I like the concept of the chatpad even though I can't see myself IM'ing much from the 360.
MS is close to owning the livingroom with the 360 but they need to close the deal by adding a web browser to the 360! Then the chatpad would be the perfect accessory!
