For the bargain price of $28.99, the smiling crooks at Circuit City will help some gullible soccer mom install "backwards compatibility" on a newly purchased Xbox 360, despite the fact back compat updates are free via Xbox Live (or by mail for those without an internet connection). On a more positive note, a call to my local store confirmed that Circuit City does not charge Downes Syndrome kids double for all Xbox 360 related purchases. At least not yet.

Best buy is the same way. "Geek Squad" will charge you an arm and a leg just to say.. clear your brower's cache. A lot of stores are taking advantage of people with minimal technical experience.

I was in a Circuit City once and overheard one of the managers try and sell a $195 setup to a guy that was buying a $399 PC (after rebates) He said that they would apply all the updates and install Norton. He said something to the effect of "You know it's going to take 3 or 4 hours at least to get this PC so you can work with it. We get it so that you can take it right out of the box and start using it. Isn't $195 worth saving you that time?" The guy responded that he would have to work 15 hours just to make up for the 3 he saved. The manager didn't have a comeback after that.

LOL! Great story OMAC.
Reminds me of the time I was in a Futureshop/Best Buy getting a second HD and the guy gave me the rambling spiel about getting a warranty on the drive that would cover me in case of failure, breakage, etc. I said 'what about the data on the drive ... you know ... data recovery'. "Oh we don't do that'. I didn't get the extended warranty ... protection plan ... or whatever the hell they call it needless to say.

Soccor moms have a lot of money. First, they could afford to have children and get society to pay the bulk for their kids public education. Then, soccor moms proved again they have money by buying their kids a 360 in the first place instead of a cheaper game system. Make little Tommy buy his own drugs!
If soccor moms can't afford their own gullible condition then that is their fault, not Circuit $hity.

circuit city near me charges for CDs to be put into your ipod. They have you bring in 10 CDs and the next day they are on your ipod for an incredibly expensive charge.

I remember Best Buy doing this at launch. Of course most of us people who camped out already knew enough not to fall for it, but there was one older man there who was getting a 360 for his kid and he fell for it hook line and sinker. I tried to explain how easy it was and that he was throwing his money away, but he wouldnt listen.
